Its been the MO for about 2 years now to call them earlier than later. Realities of modern track management. Too bad though...it did end up being a nice night.

I'm afraid I don't get that in this age of modern technology. A nearly real-time (10 min delay) Doppler radar image is available to anyone with internet access from Environment Canada's site. A composite image of all weather radar stations across the country is available but most useful is the local area views. The composite can show larger rain systems further afield, as far as the stations can reach from Canadian territory at least, but that is very useful too when judging whether to call a race night 6 or 7 or 8 hours out.

Do not know why race was cancelled was not there but at 5P.M.weather showed spotty showers in the area.I know the track has to make a decission but 5 P.M. is to early to call when there is just spotty showers.Remember the show did not start until 8 P.M.and you could of cancelled time trials and just draw for starting positions and roll the dice for inversion. That is not hard to do.Do not know how many cars showed up.Delaware now you have unhappy spectators and posibly drivers who drove from home to just find out cancelled.Think what your next step is to keep your fans and others happy.Maybe next time you will think and check with the proper people ( Weather people ) and read weather radars like Exeter ontario weather radar that reads all Southwestern Ontario.

Makes sense from a business point of view....It saves them money in wages and whatnot, as well as supplies in the concession stand. However, it doesn't make sense from a racer's point of view, which ultimately should be given precedence above the business view. For all the iffy things Tony N/Brad McG. did in their time, they always waited until the last minute to call races...

Unfortunately, Doppler can only accurately tell you what's going on at the moment. As far as making predictions go, they can give you a percentage estimate, but its still pretty much hit and miss...otherwise the weatherman would be right 100 percent of the time.

Besides, a bigger factor is that all the spiffy weather technology in the world still aint gonna convince fans to come out when the sky looks gloomy. Sure, us hardcores would be there, but we're only a small segment of the target audience.

But, I agree that its too bad they called it that early. As I said, it turned out to be a nice night. I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a rain date in the cards.

This is crazy calling a race before every measure is takin is just poor management!
Talk about the drive the fans whatever you want the but the fact of the matter is the weather was nice and sunny.
John talked in another thread about the improvements Delaware made (smoke and mirrors) this is a perfect example of taking away a big race these guys work very hard to get ready for have there sponsors come out for the race tell possible sponsors about it and try to get them out and when they show up at the race track on a nice sunny friday night to find out that the races were cancelled due to rain.
Now from a sponsors point of view would you rethink your sponsorship of that car?
Delaware need to go back to the do everything possible to get the show done (everytime no exceptions)
This management team is new buit i think that common sence should still be there.
This is a hurt to your already dwindling field of late models.
Sorry for being so ,long winded but this kind of crap drives me crazy.
