Delaware Speedway’s 60th season of racing is set to open this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm with the running of a G.A.W. Enduro race. Also competing at the opener are the fender-bending Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars. General admission and reserved seat tickets for the event are available at the gate or online here.
Officials are being especially tight lipped regarding the precise format that will be used at Saturday’s G.A.W. Enduro event, but are saying that Saturday’s race is sure to be an exciting start to the season.
“Fans are going to want to come out and see this event,” said Director of Racing Operations Ron Sheridan. “We’re not announcing the details of the format before the race in order to keep it a surprise for both fans and drivers.”
The special format for the race will be officially announced at the drivers meeting and relayed to fans in the grandstands shortly after.
“One of the appeals of the classic Enduro race was its unpredictability,” added Sheridan. “By not announcing the details of the format before the race, we bring back some of that”.
The G.A.W. Enduro (short for endurance) is an event unlike any other which features 60-100 vehicles on the track at the same time. The class is unique as it does not make use of yellow caution flags to slow the action in the event of a crash, but often able to continue racing through a spin or minor incident. A driver may signal they wish the race to be stopped and a red flag is used and to stop the race and allow them to exit their vehicle. Officials may also choose stop the race under certain circumstances. The race is also unique as it is often able to run rain or shine. The division is the speedway’s entry-level racing class with rules that allow a wide range of vehicles to participate ranging from 4 and 6 cylinder cars, to 8 cylinder cars, trucks, station wagons and more.
Also featured on the day are the fender-bending Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars. Now entering their fourth season, the Chaos Cars have proven to be a fun program for fans and participants alike. The division features a wild brand of full-contact obstacle course racing. The division concept was recently picked up by Excalibur Speedway in Tomah, Wisconsin, USA after recordings of the races were seen on the internet and discussions with Chaos Car officials.
“After three years the Ultimate Chaos Car program is really picking up momentum,” said Chaos Director John Houghton. “Competitors are recognizing the amount of fun that can be had on a budget and fans have been enjoying the chaotic formats and wild drivers.”
Pit gates will be opening thirty minutes earlier than last year at 10:30 am. Spectator gates for Saturday’s opening event open at 1:00 pm, competition will begin at 2:00 pm. General admission and reserved seat tickets for the event are available at the gate or online here. Spots on the Crabby Joes of Strathroy patio are still available for the event by contacting Joe at the speedway office (519) 652-5068 Ext 204.

Response has been positive, but to ease the #1 concern of drivers calling into the office - - we will be travelling the normal direction (counter clockwise) around the track. The speedway is not configured to use the full track the other direction.
