SUPERSTOCK RULES MEETING, JANUARY 18, 2012
1) SURVEY RESULTS (John Houghton)
- 9 cars confirmed to run full-time
- 9 cars will run part-time
- 2 cars will not run
- Friday night IS the preferred night to run
- many teams want to travel to other tracks
- teams good with 25 lap and 35 lap features
- methodology for setting field/grid NOT clear to most teams
- main concerns ...
- application of handicapping system
- tension between fibreglass and steel bodied cars
- costs, costs, costs
- want rules freeze
- want to consider radial tires
2) RULE CHANGES FOR 2012 (Leon Manning)
- most rules will stay the same
- want to address perception that build motors have an advantage
- new minimum weight limits / distribution
- steel body, crate engine = 3150lb
- steel body, build engine = 3250
- fibreglass body, crate engine = 3200lb
- fibreglass body, built engine = 3300lb
- steel body max 55% left side weight
- fibreglass body 53% max left side weight
- any fibreglass on car (hoods, fenders, roofs) other than nose pieces means that the car will have to meet fibreglass body weight rules
- any new car must use Camaro clip, rear leaf springs
- formal, firm crate engine REBUILD procedures will be put into the rule book.
- MSD boxes - no sealed will be allowed, new wiring scheme may be put in place
DISCUSSION ...
- will look at allowing recap tires on 8" rims - several teams want this and some willing to test
- recap tire a bit quicker but main advantage seems to be that they do not "drop off" during races, and last longer
- it was suggested that built motors should be restricted to the crate engine camshaft
- it was also suggested that the crate engine cars should be allowed to run 50% rear weight, to bring cars into line with other tracks
- much debate on using 1 1/2" tubing in cages. Leon stated that anything that touches the greenhouse area must be 1 3/4", .095 tubing
- after much debate Leon said the rule book will state what MUST be 1 3/4"
- 5" minimum clearance, does cross member apply? Rule will be made clear = 5" ride height everywhere
3) POINTS FUND (Manny de Melo)
- must run 10 of 12 races to be eligible
- driver points based on driver's BEST TEN races
-drivers eligible for year end points fund
- owner points will be based on BEST 12 races (all races)
- owners eligible for trophy (and bragging rights)
- $30,000 in track points fund, there will be NO NASCAR year end fund
- track will NOT be NASCAR sanctioned this year, on hiatus
REGISTRATION
- $250 to register car, 50% of that goes into year end points fund
- back gate will cost $25 for each person who enters track. (Books of 25 passes can be bought for $550, or $22 each)
4) RACE PROCEDURES (Justin de Melo)
- Double File Restarts
- if you (and it's clear that it's you) cause TWO cautions you will be PARKED
- Feature races will be 35 laps
- multiple autograph sessions will be offered, prepare hero cards
- the pre-season SHOOTOUT will have points awarded for those who participate
any changes to accomadate out of town cars to run the odd night or special?
As far as I know it should be no big deal to show up and run and I'm sure we would all enjoy having you here
JR did it!!
"any new car must use Camaro clip, rear leaf springs"
dose this mean i can run a monte body on a Camaro if i build a car ?
I feel the glass bodies are an added cost as well not worth the penalty
