From what you have said it sounds like it is OK from the firewall back? When this happens is it better to weld a new front clip on or try to straighten it out?

Oh, it's a new clip for sure, the spring pockets are even collapsed. Just a question of whether it should be pull back before cutting the front clip off. Sometimes the centre section will pop off square when you release the tension.
