I think the ones who would go are going to go regardless, and the ones that weren't aren't going to be swayed by 20 points...
A quick peak at the top of the Super Stock points should reveal how big 20 points is. Anyone near the top who wasn't planning to go WILL be swayed if they have any interest in staying up top.
It's unfortunate. An invitational is just that...and invite to come on down and race. Have some fun if you want to or can afford the time/money. Should a whole season dedicated to supporting the Delaware program be wrecked (points-wise) because you can't afford to go? Or heaven forbid, you wreck your car on the Friday night at Delaware? How's that sound for a double-whammy.
If this was revealed at the beginning of the year, when the schedule was released, I think people would be much more receptive to the idea. Dropping it now? Absurd, and disrespectful to the teams in my opinion. Not sure if anything is being done to protest the situation but it seems unfair to me.
I feel for any teams that just can't make the trip because the budget they constructed back in the spring is too tight to be "flexible" at this point in the year.
Just my two cents.
I heard about points being involoved in this deal a while ago, and I would think it would be easier for the guys at the track every week to get the information :- Nobody is going to need to change springs, I know the guys that went last time didn't change gears, and tires won't cost anything if ya run old tires, it's just the extra cost of the travelling that's going to hurt guys. Having it on an off week would have been a better plan, doesn't matter to me because they have all been off weeks for me, but I can see how it would be a problem. I'm figuring for myself, going there, is going to be about $40-$50 more, just because of the gas to get there, I've ran there a few times before, I don't see any costs other than extra fuel in the hauler as far as my program goes. Hopefully we get a full field and maybe a few from other tracks, I'll be out for the first time this year. ;D
What bothers me most is that up until this week nothing was confirmed and was not presented to the drivers meeting until then. Also there are many teams under confusion about the cayuga dates and times and now they find out they get a hundred bucks but pay 40 a head to get in the pits, so a driver and one crew makes 80. If you hey take their friends and family and camp to make a weekend out it then there is another adult or two and a kid or two 30 to 100 $ and 25 bucks and up to camp. This is looking like an expensive way to get 20 points. Don't forget this is regular friday night divisions for most of these guys and aren't doing cartwheels about paying 27 to get in the pit at delaware.
Gotta agree with the 27 bucks to get in thing !!! Now two of my best crew guy's sit in the stands !!! My son's... Phillip & Dale and believe me THAT SUCKS !!!!!!

When there were rumours flying about points being possibly involved, which I had heard over a month ago, the drivers should have gotten TOGETHER and talked about it with the speedway.
