Heats

Super Stock 1
5-Mairs jumps out floowed by Root, Sheilds, Bloemendal and Ott. Bloemendal drops out of line and leaves Ott and Sheilds to run side by side. Then Ott drops out of line, Sheilds gets away and Ott and Root battle side by side for 3rd. 1st to Mairs, 2nd to Shields, 3rd to Ott

Super Stock 2
Right off the green flag there's trouble as 77-Lake and 84-Smith get together and loop in turn 1 for the yellow. After the restart its the top 4 running nose tail with Nagy, Lawrence, Reid and Smith. Lawrence pushes Nagy hard, as the points seperating him, Lidster and Smith are only 4 or so. Nagy holds on though. 1st Nagy, 2nd Lawrence, 3rd Reid

LM 1
We welcomed Matt Pritiko back after missing a week due to a bent race car, and we also welcomed Derek Clark, formerly of the number 7 truck. He was running the number 10, (renumbered 18), sportsman car. Hope to see the number 7 on the side soon. The way things are going, the question is, will it be a Super Stock or a Late Model?
Team Total gets out front 1 and 2 with 00-Cox in front, Ramsay second and 78-Watson 3rd. Thats the way it stays, but Watson reels the two in and mounts a good charge in Ramsay in the closing laps.

LM 2
Starts off with 81 Gresel going around in 1 after the green flag. One failed restart when Urlin jumps the green and they throw yellow again. Gresel is mad at being sent to the back and rockets through the field and up to 2nd once green flies. He has Urlin in his sights and reels him in until he's right on the bumper of the 4 car. Gresel gets him loose in 4 on the last lap, (a carbon copy of the move Urlin made on Powell in the Kyle Busch race) and they come across the line side by side. Urlin edges him by a bumper, then dumps the 81 in turn 1 on the cooldown lap. (Guess Johnny can dish it out but he can't take it.)  3rd to 35x-Jacques

After the checkers fly, we also notice that 33-Grover is up against the turn 3 wall. He goes peeling out of there and drives thru the pits and out to pit lane to confront the 8 car. Its Hulkamania in the pits as Grover jumps out and lets his displeasure be known. (A whole lot of commotion but really we were too far away to see what was going on.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Super Stock Feature

Right off the bat its all Mairs and Sheilds out front, but caution flies early on lap 2 when 28-Lawrence ends up in the grass in turn 3. Lawrence pulls it in the pits for a look and comes out tail end when the green flag drops again. Now its Mairs, Shelids, DeJesus and Ott welded together and putting in some distance. DeJesus isnt that fast and Ott, feeling frisky from his win the week before, muscles past DeJesus before the leaders get too far. Now the top 3 are all bumper to bumper and 11-Lidster breaks free and joins them to make it a foursome.

Now about 8 or so laps in, Shields is around in 3 and Ott is up to 2nd. Caution.

Restart has Mairs, Ott, Lidster, then Richmond and Lake side by side. Richmond is doing his usual outside lane magic and staying right with Lake. He see-saws back and forth a bit between Lake and Lidster, and eventually settles into 5th spot.

Now the leaders are coming up to lap traffic. Ott goes outside and snookers Mairs behind a slower car and makes the pass for the lead. Mairs drops off and now its Ott, Lidster, and a big pack consisteing of Lake, Richmond, Smith, Reid, Lawrence and Nagy. What a fight! It ends however when Reid and Nagy get together on the backchute and Nagy goes around to bring the caution out.

After the restart, Its Ott, Lake, then Richmond, while Lidster, Smith and Lawrence all fight over 4th spot. In the closing laps, Richmond is all over Lake but can't get around. Ott hangs on for his 2nd win in a row! 2nd to Lake, 3rd to Richmond, 4th Lidster and 5th to Smith.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Late Model Feature

Gresel and Cox take command early with Urlin, Watson and Ramsay straight behind. For a little while the top 2 are on the run and its looking like the double-zeroes are not settling for second tonight, as Cox makes several early attempts on Gresel.

Not much change in order in the 1st half. What WAS sort of odd was that several of our good runners seemed to be way off tonight. 72-Thompson, 14-Emery and 25-Powell were languishing near the back all night. Not sure what was up there.

So now the only real change is that Ramsay seems to drop off a bit and Kenndy gets past him into 5th. Gresel, who had opened up a bit of a lead seems to be dropping ever so slightly, as though he'd used his tires up or something, because now Cox is right on his bumper again. Both of them, plus Urlin and Watson are now bumper to bumper coming down to the closing laps.

Now the heartbreak of the season happens, as something lets go on the front end of Cox's 00 machine on the frontstretch and he piles hard into the turn 1 fence...sort of like what Urlin did 2 weeks ago.The front end of the car is toast and its a lengthy cleanup.

So after the restart, Gresel keeps it in front. Urlin mounts the challenge but cant muster it this time. Gresel takes his 2nd of the year. 2nd to Urlin, 3rd to Watson, 4th to Kennedy, 5th to Ramsay.

Tough deal for the 00 car tonight. Cox was OK but commented it was probably the end of the line for the 00 this weekend. (But hey...its racing and I've seen miracles happen. It'll be long hours and lots o coffeee...and I'm betting on seeing the 00 on Sunday for sure. Those guys aren't slouches....and the 200 is on the line.)

------------------------------------------------------------------

That's it for night 1 of the Great Canadian Race Weekend. Tomorrow night is round 2, with an MRA/Powerade Modified Invitational, Demar Aggregates Trucks, Transmission Direct All Star Race. Plus the added feature that they've been talking about all season.... (apologies to Johnny Cash fans)

"Look-a-yonder coming. Comin down that rail road track.... HEY look-a-yonder coming, coming down that rail road track...Its the Delaware TRAIN RACE special. They're bringing train racing back! (whooo wooo)"  ;D

Don't you dare miss it.   😉

Photos and Stuff

A line of Krown Jr Late Models. In the pre-race, John Houghton went down the line interviewing each driver.

Lucas Manning (3rd generation Manning at Delaware!) being interviewed by John Houghton. Lucas is Duane's son.

Jordan stops by to say hello!  Hey Jordan, tell your Dad to keep shootin those crazy awesome pics! (and I'll make sure I have a pocketful of those balloons on Sunday)

Mickey Brydges, driver of Demar Truck 17 stops by the Row to say howdy and catch some Late Model racing. See that crazy look in his eye? He'll be bringing it tomorrow night come race time.

Jesse's 10 car being renumbered 20 so Scott Lindsay can snag some points. Unfortunately, it looks like the real 20 car is done for the year after crunching the wall during last weeks feature.(Jesse had the 10 on the red Delisle car tonight and snagged a 4th in it.)

The new 33 Super Stock for Paul Fothergill and Team Ultimate. I'm sure this will be a hot topic of conversation over the winter. (no it didn't race)  So, cool new upgrade, or the end of the division as we know it? Should make for some lively debate. The story I have on this car, as I understand it, is that its an old CASCAR chassis, front to back, Super Stock crate motor, Super Stock tires, next gen Camaro fiberglass body. Heh...let the discussion begin.

Shadow, did I hear correctly some King/Hill cars got tangled up? I wish I could have gone, but weddings, happy wife, grateful family have kept me from the track until Sunday.
