Forget it. >:(
Its not worth the hassle to try and get anyone to discuss it.
Shadow your statement of the SS being changed may very well be correct! But did it not change and evolve from Street Stock? The point I must stand on is the necessity for a committee of track officials and Race teams to be instituted to "Look" at things before the bullets fly!
Getting back to the steel Fiberglass debate:
Sid I need an open on the forum price to sandblast and prime my new Camaro body so it can be ready to be hung the chassis. I don't think my neighbours would be too happy if I tried to pull this offin the drive way.
BTW I used my vacation pay to purchase a plasma cutter to cut bodies apart as my $400 torch set is a little rough on car bodies. The cost of the Plasma was $1900 and the compressor (which barely keeps up) was $600. The consumables are pre pretty cheap though. You will probably use about 25 zip cut wheels @ $2 each on your $100 angle grinder. Oh yah you need at least one gallon of Aviation Stripper to get the paint off. It takes about a week to totally prepare a body for primer. Then you need to make some mods to hang it and reattach your fenders doors. You probably all ready own a welder and if you don't pony up another $600-$800 plus the bottle lease.
Now that being said if an enthusiastic fan was sitting up in the stands and wanted to go racing which is the better way to go? A fiberglass kit with replacement panels or scouring the countryside for a rotted out POS?
I know my statements irritate some of our fellow racers and I'm not going to apologize for that. I don't have the resourses some of the teams have, but what I have I gladly share with anybody. I try and sell parts to help pay for tires but you how racers are, so I've been giving allot away to enduro guys.
Anyway my biggest fear is that Delaware stops changing, it has changed, and developed and for the most part done well. Some would beg to differ and on some points they would right. If you want to witness stagnation Take a drive today about 140 klms to the east and you will see what keeping a strangle hold on change does to a track and it's fan count.
Wouldn't using after market body panels be more efficient and cost effective then trying to find / repair "POS" original body panels? The fit isn't great on these after market panels but they are relatively cheap and readily available are they not? I don't know about the 80's Cameros but the Novas, Montes, Chevelles, etc are pretty much off the shelf.
Just askin.
The reason why I'm talking a bout the body (just for clarity) Is that it is the belief that the body will be detrimental to the division. Some think possibly the demise.
As for the chassis there are quite a few of "Non-stock" cars on the track like the #60, #74, #69, #7, #14, #84 just to name a few and by non stock I mean [glow=red,2,300]fabricated rear sections with a close to stock clip[/glow] as opposed to the original unibody frame re-enforced. When I built our car there was nothing left to fix, it had all corroded away.
There seems too be two camps of contention on here, one being the body and the other being the chassis. I think I have provided clarity on the chassis, the body has yet to be determined but I'm on my way to pick up a fender, hood and deck lid just in case we need it.
I'm done on the subject. The car looks great.
