Howdy all! Well, I've got the computer packed up up for the big move, and as a result won't be able to submit a report tonight. Not going anywhere though...still be checking in from work and Mom-in-law's place. I'll drop by with some thoughts tomorrow, but again, no full blown report.
So if anyone wants to jump in later, please feel free!
I'll give er a shot. No notes so bear with me and by all means correct my mistakes as I haven't checked the final results and hey...it doesn't really matter for my purposes anyways ;). I am not responsible for any errors or omissions because it was a beautiful night and the beer was cold 😉 😉
The night started out with a 35 lap LM feature that was delayed from June 4th I believe. The drivers knowing they had heats and another feature to run later would take it easy......oh wait no they didn't 😮 A crash occurred before the first lap was in the books but if I recall there was no fatal damage. The race restarted and they did settle in for a while until the 81 of Gresel had a problem going into three which by the time he got through four collected the 10X of Sheppard. Sheppard's front right was completely sideways. He and and crew worked on the 10X all night and he ran the final 35 lap feature. Great work from the 10X team. Don't remember enough of the rest of this race to relate any more specifics except the Ron Sheridan won the first feature.
The regular night racing started after this with the two truck heats and the two SS heats. Good battles happened in all four heats.
Next up was the 25 lap truck feature. Side by side racing was the story of the night with the race stopping a couple times for spins. The 33 Fothergill seemed to come alive in the last quarter of the race with his truck hooked up on the outside passing trucks and making his way to the point to win the feature. The BOO Birds were out again in full force with a few courses of "Cheater-Cheater" Brings to mind Big E saying "I don't care if they boo or cheer as long as they aren't quiet" LOL.
The SS feature took to the track for the 28 lap Dave Lawrence memorial. On the white flag lap before the start a majority of the fans stood and waved their hats in tribute to Dave and the drivers. Great show of support. Conspicuous by his absence was the 97. Nuff said about that. A few things stick out with this race. First you couldn't help but keep an eye on the 28 of Lawrence as he and the 24 of Richmond slowly worked their way up through the field. Both settled in mid pack for a while until Richmond cut down a tire and had to restart in the back. The 7 of Shields seemed to be on a mission all night making some moves that you went 😮 after watching. Trying to go three wide for many drivers seemed to be the theme of the night with one incident coming out of turn four the 7 got two wheels up on the wall then he did his best Hell Driver impression for a good part of the front stretch until in settled down on all fours again. How that car didn't flip I don't know but he gathered it up and by the time they made it through turn one he was passing cars again. The car that was on rails all night and led most of the race was the 60 of Jake "Juice Box" Ott. I thought for sure this was his night as he checked out on the field but it wasn't meant to be. A late race caution at lap 22 or 23 bunched up the field and the 60 went in a little deep in turn one and drifted up. That was all that the 84 of Steve "Pee Wee" Smith needed to go to the point and take the checkered. After the last restart I think all eyes were on the 28 as he lined up 4th with a shot at the win but that is where he finished if I recall correctly. Great race all the way through and congratulations to the 84 on his 3rd feature win of the season.
The final race of the night was the second 35 lap LM feature. The 22 of CRO's own Jamie Ramsay started on the pole and took off running. The boys weren't as patient as earlier in the night and the racing was side by side. It didn't take long for a caution to happen which I believe the 22 got caught up in and ended up with some front end damage. This would not deter the 22 as he worked his way back to the front and stayed there the rest of the way battling the "Rocket" to the end to take his first feature win of the season. Congratulations to Jamie and his team!!
The 00 and the 51 which will be driven by Reuterman and Busch on July 7th were basically doing a testing session it looks like with Jamie Cox shaking down the 00 and Matt Robblee piloting the 51. I think Matt has been taking it easy on the car these last few races because he is better than his finishes have shown. Speaking of a Robblee the 28 had to put on another clinic again as he cut down a right front and nearly tagged the wall in turn one. Brought back memories of when he slammed the same wall a few years ago but this time he came through undamaged. He pulled in the pits and replaced the tire and started at the rear of the field with about 15 laps to go. It was classic "Showtime" as the 28 went inside - outside - up the middle and ended up finishing 4th or 5th.
I am sure I missed alot of things here but this is my first shot at it 😀 :-X
You're hired! Great report Ernie.
Yeah it was a great run for Ott for sure and he looked poised for the win till a very late caution brought Steve Smith to his back bumper. Unfortunately Ott bobbled and ended up going backward. Incredible run for him though.
Also of note was an incredible display by Devon Bloemendal who led the first half (or so) of the feature and then waged an awesome side by side, multi lap battle with Fothergill. Only thing that got Fothergill in front was a caution that took them to the order of the last completed lap...and 33 must have had a nose ahead in that lap. Race of a lifetime for Bloemendal is what it looked like to me.
Great run by Ramsay in the last feature, having the dominant car for most of the race until Sheridan caught him at the end...still 52 played it clean and came in 2nd.
Silverthorn Jr was there but i guess wasnt allowed to race as the car never left the trailer.
Kudos actually to 7-Sheilds too. Hit the wall coming out of 4 and looked like the car hit so hard that all 4 tires left the ground, but he kept going and didnt fall of the pace a bit. Great bit of driving.
You must of been wearing a differnet hat last night Shadow? I took my Dad there for the races last night and we sat in the blues in the middle section about even with Richmond row and I couldn't see you. Oh well....next time. Now its off to Grand Bend to have some pops and watch people put there boats in. You want a fun afternoon watching people at the Grand Bend Launch is entertainment for the whole family. 😉 😮
Nope. I was in my usual spot. Was joined by my lady and my Mom.
Don "the Outlaw" Perkins joined us too. 😀 He was responsible for the party horns you might have heard when the SS feature did the wave-by lap.
