22 cars in pit-21 started 50 lap feature: Dave McKnight, Russ Wood, Chris Perley, Jeff Holbrook, Bob Magner. Notables: Doug Didero arrived late-came back from a spin to finish 6th; John Benson 9th in the third Patco car. (He debuts his own tonight at Berlin)
Powerade Mods-Only 14 cars including Adams from Mosport and Haughton from Michigan. Robin McCluskey won in the ugliest car there.
And yes it was $39.00 admission-crowd was good so I hope some of the fleecing goes towards the rumoured improvements. ISMA guys mentioned "bumpy and tight"! Berlin tonight is $20.00 for ISMA, Auto Value sprints, USAC midgets
If they are going to gouge at the gate like that my bells may not ring quite as persistently to get down there even when the renovations are done. That ticket is not worth $39 and there's no way around it.
I admit this was my first time to the track in three seasons as Ohsweken has become a more reasonable Friday night option for me. It was great seeing the supers again but that $39 plus a buck would have gotten me into four sprint car shows at Ohsweken this season. I heard reserved seats, by the way, were $45.00. It was an older crowd----likely one that goes to 3 or 4 shows a year or follows ISMA----rather than weekly racing fans. The show, I think, was aimed at that age and affluence bracket and priced accordingly. (Seniors only paid $25.00 explaining why so much grey hair I guess-that's a hefty discount over adult and seems out of proportion)
I spent $78 in admission plus $11.00 for an ISMA yearbook and bumper sticker at the track. Add in a couple hot dogs and drinks at the understaffed track snack bar-gas from Burlington and back, and dinner in London-phew it adds up! for a show that was two divisions, a tota1 of 5 heats and 36 cars in the pits!!!
Your experience speaks volumes mike.
Dster-I enjoyed the show thoroughly but found a few things irritating besides the pricing structure. I enjoyed the quick 2 1/2 hr show instead of the marathons we usually find as track finales. The local announcers didn't know who Doug Didero was when he arrived late from NC. Thank goodness the ISMA guy set them straight. They then proceeded to talk down to the crowd re supers just like Vic Rauter talks on the Nascar telecasts where he thinks everyone is a racing novice. It was a pretty hard core crowd.
Something that irritates me to no end re a lot of asphalt tracks is the victory photo for a heat race! I used to think this was devised by certain track photographers to pad their business. In the track modifieds, they went one step beyond and did an out of the car interiew with one of the mod heat winners. I guess it helped fill in time considering the anemic car count in the support division. JMO-Mike Lindsay
