Well, remember a couple weeks ago when we had a full moon..and nothing really out of the ordinary happened?
Well it must have been a delayed reaction full moon, because it all happened tonight.
Checkers for Fothergill, Lidster, Newman and Adraeinsen...and a whole host of other crazy stuff. And all you jabronies that always take the night off just because the Late Models aren't running...well, its sucks to be you. 😉 You missed a wild and wooly show.
Shadow report. June 11
So we begin the night with the resumption of the Truck Feature from last weeks rainout.
When the green flag drops, were on lap 5 and 01-Bloemendal is in front followed by Matt Koricina, 33-Fothergill, 7-Clark and 75-Dupuis. Fothergill immediately goes on the offensive and goes high on Bloemendal, working the outside until Bloemendal gets squiggly down the backchute and Fothergill gets the top spot. Fothergill opens up a lead while Bloemendal, Dupuis, 82-McCaw, 55 Adraeinsen and 56-Showler all run nose-tail for the 2nd spot.
Mishap on lap 14 when the 2 Koricinas get together in turn 1, 93-Matt spinning and collecting 99-Michelle to bring out the caution.
At the restart, the order remains Fothergill, Bloemendal, Dupuis, McCaw, Adraeinsen and Showler. McCaw is pushing Dupuis hard and likewise Showler is pushing Adaeinsen. At one point McCaw gets past Dupuis but the caution comes out and Dupuis gets the spot back. Great battle between Adraeinsen and Showler for 5th, and Adraeinsen manages to hold him off.
1st to Fothergill, 2nd to Bloemendal, 3rd to Dupuis, 4th to McCaw, 5th to Adraeinsen.
Heats
Super Stock 1
99-Nagy starts on the pole but 3-Perkins gets past and begins to run away. Great 3 way battle for 2nd between 04-Humphreys, Nagy and 66-Bloemendal.
1st to Perkins, 2nd to Humphreys, 3rd to Bloemendal.
Super Stock 2
Special guest tonight is Jeremiah Rabideau driving the 7 car for Jared Shields. 9-DeJesus grabs the lead while 97 Silverthorn, 11-Lidster and 77-Lake battle it out for 2nd. Great last lap duel between Lake and Lidster, which Lake gets the better of.
1st to DeJesus, 2nd to Silverthorn, 3rd to Lake
MRA/Powerade Modifieds Heat 1
39-McCullough takes the lead with 88-Shippy on his bumper the whole time.
1st McCullough, 2nd Shipway, 3rd 38-Hendricks
MRA/Powerade Modifieds Heat 2
This one starts off with 3-Cox pulling it in with problems before the green even drops. 54-Limon gets the earfly lead but 1-Newman muscles past leaving Limon to duke it out with 24-Richmond for 2nd. Theres one mishap when 70-Saunders, 19-Scott and 87-Kallies go 3 wide sending Kallies around in turn 1. Kallies gets it going with no caution.
1st to Newman, 2nd to Limon, 3rd to Richmond.
Demar Truck heat 1
7-Clark is out in front but 93-Koricina gets underneath and past, and brings Dupuis and Adraeinsen with him. Soon Dupuis and Adraeinsen do the same to Koricina, leaving him in 3rd. Spirited attempt by Clark to get 3rd back from Koricina, but no go.
1st to Dupuis, 2nd to Adraeisnen, 3rd to Matt Koricina.
Demar Truck Heat 2
Banzai move by 99-Koricina to get low on leader Bloemendal in turn 3, and 00-Johns and Fothergill follow her through. Fothergill gets past Johns to 2nd then begins to work inside Koricina. Mishap when the two come up on the tortoise slow, smoke belching machine of 5-Sloetjes, who for some reason is still on the speedway. Coming out of turn 4 they go 3 wide to get around. Koricina, on the outside, runs out of room and smacks the wall hard to bring out a caution, then a red while the med staff look her over. (she was alright)
After the restart, Showler gets by Johns for 2nd and thats how it ends.
1st to Fothergill, 2nd to Showler, 3rd to Johns
Super Stock Feature
Starts off with Humphreys out in front of Rabideau for 1st place. Both Lidster and Richmond who started 4 rows back do a power move up the outside to get up into 3rd and 4th. Rabideau gets back out in front of Humphreys, while Lidster and Richmond drag race for 3rd. Humphreys looks like hes holding Lidster and Richmond up a little, allowing Rabideau to get away slighty, then caution as Lake and 84-Smith spin together in turn 3.
At the restart, lap 7, now Humphreys gets back past Rabideau as Rabideau gets loose and goes backwards. Now the order is 04-11-24 for a moment, but 11 and 24 make pretty quick work of 04. The two of them begin to run away, and now the fun begins a little further back as Silverthorn gets into Dejesus, sending him around in turn 1. Caution.
Lap 11 restart the order is still Lidster, Richmond and Rabideau. Back in the field, there's contact between 60-Ott and Perkins. Perkins goes around in turn 1 for the caution, and Ott gets the black for his participation. Perkins heads back up to reclaim his position. The green flies and now Perkins is being black flagged, presumably for not starting at the back as an accident car. Perkins continues, either unaware or unheeding, and battles Humphreys to take 4th spot. Up front, Richmond is working high on Lidster trying to get around.
Now there's another caution and we find both Ott and Silverthorn in the fence in turn 1. Red flag is thrown, this time apperently just so they can try and restore some order. With the field at full stop, Silverthorn and Ott go barrelling down the backstretch as though after each other. Ott stays on the track, stopping at the backstretch pit entrance, and Silverthorn goes barrell-assing full bore through the pits back to his trailer. At this point Perkins is also removed from the action.
So now at the restart we still have Lidster in front. The race is winding down and the 11 is pouring it on. Richmond stays with him but can't quite muster enough to get past. Richmond catches him again with 2 to go but can't seal the deal.
1st to Lidster, 2nd to Richmond, 3rd to Rabideau, 4th to Bloemendal, 5th to Smith.
Powerade Modified Feature
24-Richmond grabs an early lead but is passed soon after by 38-Hendricks, Newman and Shipway. Hendricks dominates, not running away but keeping a good lead. About the halfway point Richmond is off with some trouble. The lead pack is Hendricks, Newman and Shipway, and the 2nd pack is McCullough, Cox and Limon. (Cox doesnt seem to be running as well as normally tonight)
Lap 19 disaster for Hendricks as hes in the wrong place at the wrong time when 31-Adams loops in turn 1 in front of him, and Hendricks clips him with a front tire. Of course, in open wheel action thats fatal. Hendricks is dead on the backstretch with a bent wheel, ending an otherwise stellar evening. Newman inherits the lead.
At the restart, Shipway is staying right with Newman but cant seem to muster enough to actually get past him. A few laps later, there's a side by side brush on the frontstretch between 82-Demelo inside and Limon outside, that ends with Limon scraping the wall and sitting in turn 1 with no right front tire. Black flag for Demelo.
After the restart its all Newman again with Shippy again right with him. The other race on the track is between Cox and McCullough for 3rd, which McCullough gets the better of.
Final - 1st to Newman, 2nd to SHipway, 3rd to McCullough, 4th to Cox and 5th to 70- Saunders.
Demar Aggregates Trucks 2
Once again Clark takes an early lead followed by 93-Koricina, Adaeinsen and Dupuis. Fothergill does a run up the outside and is in 5th place, but they're waving the black flag at him for jumping the green. Koricina gets high and out of line and once the order shakes out, its Clark, Adreinsen, Dupuis, Fothergill and Koricina. And they're still waving the black at Fothergill.
Adraensen powers past Clark to take 1st and the order remains thus until the yellow comes out on lap 8 when 99-Koricina and McCaw get together in turn 4. At this point, they direct the 33 truck to pit lane to explain the black flag to him. Its announced that Fothergill is out of the race after 4 laps of not heeding the black flag, however he ends up at the back of the line. (the only time the black flag means you're out completely is if you seroiusly wreck someone...which wasn't the case here. Some of the folks in the stands didn't get that and cheered madly when they thought he was getting tossed.)
So now at the restart, Adraensen is 1st with Clark holding onto 2nd. Dupuis is 3rd with a hungry Jeff Showler right on his bumper. Adraeinsen is the class of the field and begins to open up a little room, and soon Clark is passed by Dupuis, Showler and 00-Johns. Then the caution flies, once again, for McCaw and Michelle Koricina.
After that restart, theres a bit of a shmozzle in turn 4 between Clark and Johns that end with Clark sideways and Johns powering down pit road to avoid. Also at this point 99 and 82 are together again, for the 3rd time.
Now they're at the halfway, Adraeinsen is still out front with Dupuis and Showler, seemingly welded together are battling for 2nd. 77-Zagarodny is up to 4th.
On lap 16, the caution flies when Clark, Fothergill and the 31 truck go around in turn 3. Its at this point I pick up on the fact that its Cole Powell in the 31 tonight instead of Howard...and Cole and Fothergill have some history from a couple of years back that seems to be playing out here. (I don't know if they announced this earlier, but it was the first I'd noticed, and Jared and John were talking about the Powell/Fothergill thing) Powell and Fothergill proceed to whack on each other a couple times on the caution laps. And at one oint after green flew, Powell came down the frontstretch with two right side flat tires. I don't know if that was anything to do with the 33 truck or not.
Long story short, Adraensen won it handily. Showler did eveerything he could to get around Dupuis, but Dupuis made that 75 truck use up most of the track keeping Showler behind him.
1st to Adraensen, 2nd to Dupuis, 3rd to Showler, 4th to Zagarodny, 5th to Johns
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So in closing, it was a pretty crazy night. I deliberately didn't go down to the pits afterwards tonight, because I don't thrive on bad feelings and tonight looked like one of those nights where things might have gotten ugly afterwards....both with the Super Stock guys and the Truck guys. The facebook updates are starting to trickle in now and it's looking like I wasn't too far off the mark on that. I only hope cooler heads will prevail come morning.
But...thats how it looked tonight from the cheap seats.
Shadow Out.
Sorry Trev, but we went to watch the sprints again. Actually watched a guy clear the fence in 1/2.... he walked away, but I seriously do not know how 7X I believe Matt Lake was his name.
Thanks again for the mention. We had a right front tire going flat in the first feature, causing the truck to handle quite poorly. Changed that for the heat, but the size of the tire didn't grow to what we expected in the heat. Still wasn't too bad, though. In the second feature, the right rear tire was going flat, so I was just hanging on to try and get the best finish we could. Our spares are junk, so pitting wasn't really an option either. The deal with the 00, was he was outside of me going into 3, and wasn't clear when he tried to get to the bottom, and came right across the nose of the truck. I slid the front tires trying to NOT spin him, but ended up sliding into him anyway. We talked about it after, and no hard feelings either way. What a night! Well, I guess last years tires would only last us for so long. We always run other peoples used ones, but looks like we are getting 2 new ones for next week. Great report as usual Shadow! Great run Gary, and congrats again! Good, clean racing and pass for the lead.
Thanks for the kind words Trevor...we put in some huge hours on the truck this week and it really paid off
Looks like DeJesus got whatever ailed his car last week fixed. Did we ever find out what the deal was last week?
Btw Trev is squiggly now an official racing term 😉 You and DW go to the same racing reporter school? 😀 Great report as always!
