With rumor mills buzzing, Delaware Speedway is pleased to officially announce the star-studded driver lineup for this year’s APC Summer Showdown. This year’s event will once again feature NASCAR Sprint Cup star Kyle Busch, however, what had not been reported in the rumor mill is that Kyle Busch will be racing at Delaware Speedway alongside his brother, 2004 Sprint Cup Champion Kurt Busch.
Tickets for the event, which are widely expected to sellout, are available immediately for purchase through the speedway website at this link. The race will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 with the green flag flying at 8:00 pm. Autograph sessions and opportunities for fans to see the drivers will take place earlier in the day with details being released closer to the event.
“We were contacted last fall by Kyle Busch Motorsports about returning to Delaware Speedway,” explained Delaware General Manager Joe Czernai. “Kyle Busch really enjoyed meeting with Canadian fans and the tough competition delivered by our competitors and expressed an interest in returning to defend their win.”
Many know Kyle Busch as a controversial and outspoken competitor. As one of NASCAR’s top stars, he is a driver whom many fans love to hate for his hot temper mixed with magic on the track. Busch is currently driving for Joe Gibbs racing and won three races at NASCAR’s highest level in 2010. In 2010 he also became the first driver in NASCAR history to sweep all three top-tier touring series events on the same weekend winning in the Camping World Trucks, Nationwide Series, and Sprint Cup Series at the Bristol event in August. This past weekend he returned to Bristol to win his first race of 2011. Busch’s vehicle is planned to be supplied by ABBY Motorsports which is the team behind multi-time Delaware Speedway champion Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester.
His older brother Kurt Busch won the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in 2004. Driving for Penske racing, to date he has claimed 22 victories, 80 top-five and 153 top-10 finishes along with 12 career Cup Series poles. Kurt Busch also has an IROC championship to his credit and since skyrocketing to the top of the stock car racing world early in his career he has been able to maintain a high level of performance on the track. He is the current points leader in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Kurt Busch’s vehicle in the Delaware event will be provided by the Auto Parts Centres racing team.
“We’re proud to be involved with an opportunity for our local competitors at Delaware Speedway to race against drivers from NASCAR’s top series,” said Luke Ramsay of Auto Parts Centres. “APC stores are excited to have our customers and employees joining us at this major event in Canadian motorsports.”
The APC Summer Showdown will feature both drivers competing in Delaware Speedway’s NASCAR Late Model division. The race is open to any Late Model driver whose vehicle complies Delaware Speedway rules. The event will be run with heat races, a last chance qualifier, and a main event. The main event this year will be 60 laps in celebration of the Speedway’s 60th anniversary.
This year’s APC Summer Showdown is being hosted in support of the Kyle Busch Foundation charity. The foundation supports organizations which provide safe living arrangements for children in need.
Kyle Busch will be defending his 2010 win in the event when he won over Delaware Speedway’s weekly division drivers in the NASCAR Late Models. The win marked Busch’s first win outside of the United States. During the event he briefly claimed the Delaware Speedway track record with his qualifying time of 18.634 before local driver D.J. Kennington (#3) of St. Thomas reclaimed the record several minutes later with his blistering lap time of 18.509. The two drivers ultimately squared off in the feature event where Kyle Busch made his winning pass over Kennington just before halfway to win the 50-lap event.
Tickets for this seasons’ APC Summer Showdown presented by the Kyle Busch Foundation are available online at www.delawarespeedway.com or by calling the Speedway office at (519) 652-5068.

Tickets for this event have been going very strongly today. We are looking forward to a great event.
I wanted to issue a correction notice that came to my attention in Kyle Busch's biography. I incorrectly reported that his win last year was his first outside of the USA. He has previously won in Mexico - - as such, last year's race would have been his first Canadian win.
We look forward to another great event this year.
All the best,
