Well the Delly PR juggernaut marches forward.

Its come out that they won't be doing their traditional Dave Lawrence memorial 28 lap deal this year. Whatever the reasons are, I have no idea. Ask them.

As for me, I can only say to Kris Lawrence, Jo Lawrence and Mom Heather Lawrence that they can rest assured that he is not forgotten by the ones that matter. Those that raced against him, and those who watched, remember well the spirit of sportsmanship and hard racing that your Dad represented, as well as the devastating sudden loss. Kevin Bulmer nailed it the week later when he stepped out on the front straight and said "last week when we left the speedway for the evening, the Delaware racing family was whole. Today a week later, it is not."

It still isn't.

Please don't think the Speedway's lack of recognition this year marks the end of our remembrance of Dave Lawrence. It surely does not. They can speak for themselves but they do not speak for us.

Its maybe a little late in the game for a grassrrots campaign and to get t-shirts or stickers or whatever made up. However I humbly offer up this pic for anyone who wants to put is as their profile pic for a day...or even to print it off as a sticker and put it on your car. I really don't remember who made it, but it was the original one that went around when Dave died.

Not forgotten. Not ever. Believe it.

Andrew Gresel Scores OSCAAR Super Late Model Win At Delaware Speedway

SAUBLE BEACH, Ont. (July 23, 2016) – Andrew Gresel didn’t waste any time making his presence felt in his return to OSCAAR Super Late Model racing as the Sauble Beach, Ont. native won in his first start of the season on Friday night at Delaware Speedway.

Gresel took the lead from Shane Maginnis on lap 26 of the 50-lap race and led the final 24 circuits to claim the victory. The car was good all night long for Gresel in his 2016 Super Late Model debut.

“It was pretty good right off the trailer. We just had old tires on it (in practice) and it was holding on, which is pretty awesome for those cars because they slip with all the power. The car was phenomenal,” Gresel explained excitedly.

Gresel won his first heat of the night and used the second heat to scuff in a new set of tires for the main event. The initial green flag produced the only yellow of the night with some confusion as caution lights remained illuminated while the green flag waved. After that point, the race went green to checkered without incident.

“A couple of guys pushed up the track right off the bat and we drove underneath them. That put us to third right off the bat,” said Gresel, who had started seventh.

On lap 19, Gresel maintained the third spot as Shane Maginnis made a move to take the lead from Rob Clarke. Gresel capitalized on the opportunity to take the second spot and followed Maginnis around the bottom of the racetrack to the runner-up position.

From there, Gresel set out to track down a very fast Maginnis in an aggressive battle at the front of the field.

“A couple of times I had a good run off the corner and I’d just get the nose inside him, but mid straightaway, he would pull away by a car-length in to the corner. I couldn’t believe it,” Gresel said of Maginnis’ speed.

The two drivers made contact at one point during the battle and Gresel barely averted disaster.

“It put me sideways and I almost looped it down the backstretch, which would have been really bad, but I just held on to it,” Gresel said. “We managed to catch him again and then we finally got around him.”

Gresel’s ability to get around the tight ends of the big egg-shaped half-mile propelled him to the victory, his third this season in as many starts at the London-area track.

The opportunity to race the Super Late Model, which Gresel piloted to an OSCAAR championship in 2014, was a breath of fresh air for the 31-year old driver who competes on a more regular basis with the APC United Late Model Series.

“From a driver’s point of view, it’s tons of fun. It’s like nothing else really. There’s lots of power and it handled. When they’re handling it’s awesome,” Gresel explained. “You drive them so much differently. You can really power it around the corner if you need to get it to turn.”

The 50-lap distance was just half the usual 100 laps for an APC Series event and reminded Gresel of the different approach required.

“You’re in that much more of a rush. It’s basically go, go, go, right from lap one with the Supers. Once you get in to the top-three, you start having a little bit more patience, but you have to hurry to get there first,” Gresel said.

Gresel is unsure of his next start in Super Late Model action, but at minimum he does plan to test the car at Flamboro Speedway prior to the $10,000 Gold Rush 100 at that track on August 22. Stay tuned to www.saublefallsracing.com and Andrew Gresel’s social media for up to date team schedule information.

SEASON STATS
Pro Late Model – 7 Starts: 3 Wins, 6 Top-5s, 7 Top-10s
Super Late Model – 1 Start: 1 Win, 1 Top-5, 1 Top-10

SAUBLE FALLS RACING MEDIA
Website: www.saublefallsracing.com
Facebook: facebook.com/saublefallsracing
Twitter: @SaubleFalls81

Andrew Gresel’s 2016 season is supported by several corporate sponsors, including: Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, London Recreational, McRobert Fuels, Hy-Grade Roofing, F1 Freight Systems, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers, Gallinger Ford Lincoln, Castrol Canada, Pro Wraps, Brisk Spark Plugs, Barry’s Construction and RadenGresel@Ehomes.

(July 15, 2016) – Jason Keen took the lead from Darren Dryden on lap 15 and led the final 10 laps to earn his third win of the season in the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds Mid-Season Championships at Delaware Speedway on Friday night.

Cassidy March and Mike Williams brought the field to the green flag for the 25-lap main event on vintage cruise night at the London-area half-mile oval. Williams claimed an early advantage over Darren Dryden who had Steve Trendell in tow.

Williams’ night took a turn for the worst when he spun alone while leading with just five laps complete. Dryden and Trendell resumed their side-by-side battle on the restart, this time for the race lead. Trendell hung tough in the outside lane and led lap six before Dryden retook the point.

Keen raced behind the top two cars and pounded on Trendell for second when the latter’s momentum stalled in the top groove. At the halfway point, Dryden led a top-five that included Keen, Trendell, Darryl Henwood and Brian Atkinson. His lead was eliminated by another caution on lap 15 when Ian Burney looped his No.33.

The restart brought forth an excellent battle between Dryden and Keen for the lead, with the latter pilot in the outside lane. The door-to-door showdown lasted three laps before Dryden got loose exiting turn two and brought out the final caution of the race with a spin on his own.

Keen inherited the lead and used the restart to distance himself from Trendell over the final 10 laps to claim his third win of the season and the Mid-Season Championship.

In qualifying heat race action, Williams won the first of two heats while Trendell won the second, which was lined up on inverted order from the first heat finish. Williams led all 10 laps in his victory after starting on the pole. Trendell, meanwhile, won a seven-lap battle with Dryden to take the checkered flag.

The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modified Series takes a week off from competition before returning to Flamboro Speedway on July 30 for the ninth event of their 50th anniversary season.

COMPLETE RESULTS – LUCAS OIL CANADIAN VINTAGE MODIFIEDS 50th SEASON

DELAWARE SPEEDWAY – JULY 16, 2016

Feature (25 Laps): 1. 18 Jason Keen, 2. 57 Steve Trendell, 3. 29 Darryl Henwood, 4. 15 TJ Marshall, 5. 7 Mike Williams, 6. 12 Darren Dryden, 7. 19 Mike Westwood, 8. 80 Amanda Stoner, 9. 92 Brian Atkinson, 10. 33 Ian Burney, 11. 25 Cassidy March.

Heat 1 (10 Laps): 1. 7 Mike Williams, 2. 92 Brian Atkinson, 3. 57 Steve Trendell, 4. 18 Jason Keen, 5. 12 Darren Dryden, 6. 15 TJ Marshall, 7. 29 Darryl Henwood, 8. 19 Mike Westwood, 9. 25 Cassidy March, 10. 33 Ian Burney, 11. 80 Amanda Stoner.

Heat 2 (10 Laps): 1. 57 Steve Trendell, 2. 12 Darren Dryden, 3. 18 Jason Keen, 4. 15 TJ Marshall, 5. 7 Mike Williams, 6. 29 Darryl Henwood, 7. 92 Brian Atkinson, 8. 19 John Karley, 9. 25 Cassidy March, 10. 80 Amanda Stoner, 11. 33 Ian Burney.

Championship Standings As Of July 16 2016: 1. 18 Jason Keen – 535 Points; 2. 57 Steve Trendell – 524; 3. 92 Brian Atkinson – 481; 4. 19 Mike Westwood/John Karley – 470; 5. 03 Bob Gilbert/Mike Williams – 462; 6. 25 Cassidy March/Bill Stoner – 458; 7. 80 Amanda Stoner – 447; 8. 33 Ian Burney – 427; 9. 29 Daryl Henwood – 423; 10. 15 TJ Marshall – 388; 11. 5 Mike Podd – 274; 12. 12 Darren Dryden – 181; 13. 09 Rob Clarke/Warren George – 181; 14. 84 Jeremy Barton – 163; 15. 21 Chris Milwain – 122; 16. 00 Ron Easton – 57;

Season Winners: 3 – Steve Trendell (May 21 at Flamboro Speedway, June 25 at Flamboro Speedway, July 9 at Flamboro Speedway); 3 – Jason Keen (June 4 at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, July 9 at Flamboro Speedway, July 15 at Delaware Speedway); 2 – TJ Marshall (June 10 at Delaware Speedway, June 12 at Sunset Speedway); 1 – Brian Atkinson (June 25 at Flamboro Speedway); 1 – Daryl Henwood (July 1 at Sauble Speedway)

MEDIA LINKS

Website: www.vintagemods.com

Twitter: @VintageMods

Facebook: Group – Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds Racing Club

The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds 2016 season is presented by a number of dedicated sponsors, including: Lucas Oil Products, Creative Edge Signs & Graphics, MacMaster Buick GMC, Georgetown Printing, Flamboro Machine Shop, Oakville Trailers & Auto Service, Wiersma Trucking, Grisdale Racing Products , B&B Decals, Oktane Productions, Oakville Auto & Diesel Machine Shop and Clayton Johns Media.

Emms had a solid run en route to finishing fourth.

Emms started off the night solidly, finishing fourth in his heat race qualifier to set him up to start third for the feature.

From the third spot, Emms began to make his quickly, moving up to second on Lap 3. He then chased down Brian McLean, passing him to put the No. 14 Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops out front on Lap 7.

Emms led the next couple of laps, till he was passed by Justin Demelo and Jeff Showler, causing him to slip back to third. He ran third till right near the end when Gary McLean slipped past him for the spot.

He’d cross the line in the fourth spot to take over the points lead, six points ahead of Gary McLean.

“Overall, it was a really positive night for us,” he commented. “Coming into Delaware, we weren’t sure of what to expect with this new car. Coming to the tracks that we haven’t been to yet is really testing, honestly, because we don’t know what we’re getting to.

“Thanks to Peter Schotanus for coming to help. He was really good on a lot of helpful advice for us and steering us in the right direction, so that was really positive. The crew guys have been working really hard all work and you know what? We came out of here with a fourth place finish, learned some stuff on the racecar and next time it’ll help us get to victory lane.

“That front pack of four cars was really fast – everybody was running really good. All of my competitors ran me good and clean, so that was awesome and overall, really happy with the night.”

The OSCAAR Modifieds continue their stretch of races for June as they will invade Full Throttle Motor Speedway this weekend on Saturday June 11 for the third race of the season.

“Next weekend - I love Full Throttle,” he commented. “We had a bit of a clutch issue in the feature so I’ll have to rectify that for next week. Overall, I’m looking forward to getting to Full Throttle and seeing what I can do with this new car. I just love this place. I want to get back behind the wheel of this racecar.”

Emms and team thank Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie for the support.

Fans can keep up with A.J.
Gresel Kick Starts 2016 Season At Delaware Speedway Spring Nationals

SAUBLE BEACH, Ont. – May 5, 2016 – The 2016 season starts Saturday at Delaware Speedway for Andrew Gresel and the Sauble Falls Racing Team. The Komoka, Ont. track’s Spring Nationals opener is the first event in the Pro Late Model Triple Crown this season. Delaware is a fan favourite track and among Gresel’s preferences.

“I love Delaware Speedway. I like the bigger tracks, the speed and I like the roughness. It’s a fun track to run on,” Gresel said in anticipation of the season opener. “We’re pretty excited to start the season off.”

“Dealing with a rougher track and the higher speeds tends to upset the car a lot more. It puts a lot more in to the wheel for the driver. You have to be focused that much more. It can throw you for a whirl in a hurry.”

Gresel, the 2011 Delaware Pro Late Model track champion, knows he will face a number of top competitors in the 100-lap season opener. He hopes to lean on his experience at the big, egg-shaped half-mile to get the season off on the right foot.

“You have to find that nice smooth line there, and its hard to find. Hopefully your car works there or it can be a nightmare,” explained Gresel. “We had a lot of luck down there and we really liked running there.”

The race will serve as a tune-up for two APC Series events at Delaware in 2016 for the Sauble Falls team. Gresel experienced success in APC action following a successful weekly race at Delaware last season.

“It’s going to help us. Last year we kind of struggled there the first time, but we went there on an off night and ran with the home track series. That helped us out a lot,” Gresel said. “Hopefully by the time the night’s done, we can make a few more fine adjustments and make the car a little bit better.”

The Sauble Falls, Ont. native certainly plans to be in contention for the win, but a spot in victory lane won’t be the sole indicator for a successful start to the season.

“I’m just looking to get the first race in. Obviously we’re gong to go and run as hard as we can, but my expectation is just to have a good clean run, get some laps on the car and get the car shaken out,” an excited Gresel explained.

The first green flag of the season flies at Delaware’s Spring Nationals at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 7.
