LETS HOPE THAT THE TRACK LOOKS AT THE RULES SO THAT THIS EVENT WILL BE FOR WHAT IT IS INTENDED.. FUN, ENTERTAINING, AND PROVIDES THE AVERAGE FAN A CHANCE TO RACE AND WIN... HAVING THE SPECIAL "DOT " CARS IS NOT ENTERTAINING..
COME ON JOHN LETS BRING THIS EVENT BACK TO WHERE IT WAS THREE YEARS AGO.. BEFORE THE VENIOM WAS SEEN OUT PRACTICING PRIOR TO AN EVENT.. THAT IN MY ESTIMATION IS NOT WHAT THE PROGRAM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE?
This isn't a judgement of any kind, but nothing at Delaware is what it was "intended" to be. Trucks, enduros, King of the Hill...all quite a bit different in spirit now from when they were created. For good or bad I have no idea.
For KOTH, I used to think that it was the 1000 dollars that was the problem, but its just that once the guys in the hot cars started coming out, that was the end of running the family wagon, except for comedy relief. The nature of the event has simply changed.
My only complaint is that I wish they'd get the real version of King of the Road by Roger Miller to play while they're rolling them out.
What is a special "DOT" car? Just curious as I don't frequent Delaware as often as I play in Barrie.
DOT implies they would be a regular use highway vehicle, not the ones that show up on trailers or such and the guys spend a bunch time changing tires and setup in the pits or the parking lot to something thats might last 5 miles on the road.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll will be one of about 8 cars from our little group to attend the King of the Hill on Friday, all of them are street driven, all of them are daily drivers for all the folks. Including mine which has 230,000 Km on it and I drive it to work every day. I'll be driving to the track on the same tires I'll be running with, so will a bunch of other folks. My tires even have visible tread blocks, unlike some others that run Hoosier A6 or R6's, or Kumho V710's which only have 2 circumferential grooves.
Some of our folks do participate in other events, like the ATTS series, which consists of 4 disciplines, Drag, Gymkhana, Time Attack, and Touge. In addition some of our guys race in GT Sprints with the CASC-OR and also in Provincial Solosprint Series and Provincial Autoslalom series. So the car's are not setup for oval at all.
But they are all DOT vehicles as per your definition, hopefully others that attend are of the same type. But yes, I agree, trailer queens with no street registrations should not be in the king of the hill.
If I were to propose any rules, it would be:
Cars must be licensed to drive on the street
Must use tires that have more than 2 grooves with DOT registration numbers right on the tires
Slicks are not permitted (no grooves)
Must drive to the event with the same tires you're going to use in the event
Must have "full interiors" in the cars (front seats, back seats, carpets, etc.)
there's more, but you get the gist.
My .02 cents.
