Man oh Man ....Did I not tell you guys about this 6 months ago.....
Nascar for the record will bend the rules for start and park deals and dont let anyone fool you on this matter. Â Whe they see a poor entry list they call on field fillers to fill the show.
Tech is a cake walk, and you get free used tires. Nascar even picks up your fuel bill.
Even as big as an event like Montreal for the GN race was filled by guys like Donny and Steckly, which were paid $1500.00 bucks to take the green driving for Phil Parsons.
Parsons made about $60,000 after everything was said and done.
They made up this stupid rule about 2 years ago that you had to have a Big Hauler and Crew in order to run and when they did that the feild fillers told them to stick it up their buttocks !!
Within 3 races the rule was lifted because they were so short on car counts, and once they allowed the small haulers and no crews back in, the feilds were once again full.
In 2004 I was at Darlington talking with some guys that won a over the wall job on Sheperds Cup Car. Â I asked what they had to do to win the spot and they told me they bought lottery tickets for Christ to Race, a promo Shepherd was doing, and for a cost of $500.00 each they won the spot....stupid stupid, but pumped up race fans...
Start and Park is a great money deal in Cup, GN and Trucks because you stand to make at least $7500 to start. Â Now dont get all pumped up and go and buy a Nascar Canada Car with the same intentions as it only pays $700.00 to start, although, they are looking for at least 20 cars for this season to fill the feild.
In short if you buy a Nascar Canada Car you will finish in the top 20 in points and you have a 90% chance at winning Rookie of the Yrear in 2009 as there are no new drivers coming in except Gibbons boy who is only going to run about 6 races at this time..but is more then likely to finish in the top 10 in points and as well, Rookie of the Year after running only 6 races.
Be a Star and buy a Car and tell all your freinds to watch you on TSN...if you crash...you will be on TV for sure...
If you go out there with the intent of racing, you will loose your shirt, and never be on TV.
So in short- buy an old Bush car for $4500.00, and a motor for another $4000.00 and go race in the GN series. Â At least at the end of the day you will take home a pretty good check....and be on a real TV station !!!
Then you can tell your buddy's you raced against guys like Harvick, Johnson and Edwards.
You will be the talk of the town....
Okay boys, pull them straps tight one more time....
Boogity..Boogity...Boogity Boys ...Lets go racing !!!
I worked on a Busch team in 07 and no one pays for their fuel, B.A.R. - part of the sponsorship deal.
Nascar even picks up your fuel bill.
Hey Ace i am guessing you never aced reading comprehension when you were in school .
I'm sure glad Mike Helton posts on here. ::)
Ace...that was part of my point....you even get free fuel while Teams that run in the CTS program have to buy it....even though they are forced to run a Sunoco decal on the nose of their cars.
No big sponsor deal here in Canada, just another money grab so Nascar can afford to pay $225,000,000,00 dollar law suits and buy quite time in the media when other storeys leak out of the wrong doings by Nascar folk......
The Feild Filler deal even gets better when you become good at it.
Big Teams will give you tires to scuff in, and give you there old 20 laps sets for free.
Motor R&D is also a great perk as the guys with the doe-ray-me give you motors to test so the can play-way-free without loosing points.
Everything from Brakes to Spark Plugs are free...they might be a little used- but who cares when your race only consists of 10 laps.
Its a sign of the time's and everyone might as well get used to it.
Other series like F1 or Indy car cant do the Feild Filler deals because the cost of the cars,
which is way to high to buy, and become a feild filler team.
That is the only reason their car counts are way way down.
If the day ever comes when you can buy an Indy Car for say $100,000.00, instead of $850,000.00, we will finally see races with feilds bigger then 24 cars in Open Wheel.
That is one huge assett Nascar has over every other racing series in the world, at the top level of racing...the cars are very cheap to buy and run in comparison with other top level racing series.
My big question is this...
Do you think the C.O.T. Car would have been introduced to racing if Nascar could have looked into the future to see a poor econamy, as we are in now ???
The C.O.T. program was a huge mistake at this time, and I am not saying Nascar is at fault, but really, this is a huge mistake !!!
No Sponsors, or sponsorships that match numbers from 10 years ago, are going to be the start of the end for all unless Nascar revamps its programs.
That means races no longer then 250 miles, manditory pit stops with timed options to elimanate over the wall crews,, tire delas that only allow 3 sets for the whole weekend, cheaper ticket prices for fans- meaning Nascar has to cut their costs as far as what a show cost, and last but not least, a pile of Feild Fillers that only get paid if they complete no less then 50% of the race.
The threat of a poor econamy in old days was never a factor with Nascar because they could always count on the multi car teams to fill the fields, but now, for the very first time, even the muti car teams are having trouble making any sence of their expence !!
I think they should look back on how they built the Truck Series as a great series.
Tire counts of 3 sets....manditory pit stops at halfway which were timmed and then relined in order of entry to pit road, and shorter races on smaller tarcks where side by side racing is truly a form of racing that fans came to see.
Nascar isint stupid, but they are impatient, and making the right calls is very scarey when you dont have the leadership in house that made this sport what it is today.
I would sooner see every Cup driver in a 200 lap Late Model race. then sit threw 4 hours of Pocono any day of the week and I would bet the entire world feels the same way.
Hats off to Nascar, but they need to take 2 steps back, before they can move 1 step forward in these times !!! Â
