DARREN DRYDEN, 2. Steven Murdock, 3. Cory Whittam, 4. Brandon Zavarella, 5. Adrian Stahle, 6. Dominique Smith, 7. Adam Racine, 8. Brandon Hauck, 9. Cassidy March, 10. Mark Schultz, 11. Ryan Fraser, 12. Lucas Munsie

In the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Qualifying Feature Hauck dominated after an early caution, earning him his first ever Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget feature win.
“The win felt pretty great. Any time you get your first win in a Cam-Am Midget, I think everyone can relate, it feels pretty surreal. I didn’t think I was going to win, if you would have told me I was going to win I would have laughed. There are so many fast guys in this club. I was getting a little tired at the end and I’m sure the 50 was coming I’m just lucky I wasn’t out raced I guess. I’d like to thank Ryan Leis from Snap-On, Epic Raceware, Grisdales, Neely Auto and Lucas Oil.”
Hauck has seen Victory Lane many times before with the 2017 Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Champion Adam Racine, as his Crew Chief, but this time it was so much sweeter as a driver.

Munsie was set to take pole for the feature but opted to start at the back of the field as he continues to fight an ill handling race car. This put March on the pole along side Zavarella.
As the field went green March didn’t seen to get going and fell to the back of the pack before tangling with Shultz bringing out the caution. Shultz departed the race with a broken bracket while March lined up for the restart at the rear of the field, this left Zavarella to restart on pole with Smith lining up beside him.

When the green dropped again Zavarella and Smith ran tire to tire until Smith pulled out ahead coming out of turn 2 while the remainder of the field spread out to figure out their positions. Hauck nabbed Zavarella for second just at the start finish line while Racine followed up in fourth and Murdock claiming fifth. Munsie left for the pits.
Smith had a strong run out in the lead for the first 6 laps but a hungry Hauck reeled her in while Stahle was busy putting pressure on Racine for fourth with Murdock following right behind them waiting for a chance to make a move. Dryden showed he had moves as he made quick work of Whittam and March at the rear of the field.

Once Hauck was out in front and pulling away from the field, Zavarella was quickly closing the distance on Smith. Zavarella was able to get along side Smith going into the corners but couldn’t make the car stick to complete the pass. Stahle was applying the pressure on Racine, in fourth, as he looked for ways to get around him. Stahle’s pressure and patience paid off on lap 12 when Stahle went low in turn 4 to complete his pass. The next lap Zavarella caught Smith at the start finish line by a fraction but Smith wasn’t giving it up easily.

After putting Racine behind him, Stahle found himself battling Smith and Zavarella for second. Stahle was able to get by Smith but Zavarella was going to put up a fight to hold the spot.

As Stahle and Zavarella battled back and forth for second, Racine passed Smith for fourth. A few spots back Dryden appeared to be coasting making small gains going forward. Dryden caught Murdock then worked on Smith for a pass to enter the top 5 for the first time in the feature as the laps drew closer to the finish.

LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS; DRYDEN TAKES DOUBLE FEATURE AT SUNSET

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets travelled to Sunset Speedway this Saturday night where they had just over an hours rain delay before getting their double features in.

Darren Dryden took both features this weekend but claimed the qualifying feature only after last years Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget champion Adam Racine experienced troubles from the lead.

“To come from the back it’s never easy but we always have a good run at this track and we definitely had a lot of grip, a lot of mechanical grip so that was a huge advantage on our end. I honestly thought the guy I was going to have to look out for today was Adam and obviously the first run didn’t go as planned for him, he definitely ran strong the second race here, I didn’t know he was going to be right up behind me in second because he just came from deep in the field, good on him for finishing second and congrats to Dom for finishing in the top three. I have to thank Autokloak, Xpert Transmission, who made his trip out here, Napa Auto Parts, StateFarm, Epic Racewear, DJD Graphics, John Dryden Autobody, Grisdales and Lucas Oil.”

Dryden once again proved he was the driver to beat this weekend as he claimed yet another double feature win.

In the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Final Feature Dryden started eight while Cassidy Marche earned his first pole with Dominique Smith lining up on his outside.
As the green flag dropped, Marche pulled ever so slightly out in front of Smith. Smith chased Marche around the track and into turn 3 where she was able to sling shot past him for the lead bringing Brandon Hauck along who was able to steal second from Marche just before the start finish line. Brandon Zavarella settled for fourth while Dryden gained three spots to round out the top 5 on the first lap.

As smith started to put some distance between her, Hauck and Zavarella back in mid pack there was a four away battle between Adrian Stahle, Adam Racine, Dryden and Murdock to figure out fifth on back while Marche fell back behind the faster cars. When the battle was over Dryden had settled into fourth, Stahle into fifth, Racine in sixth and Marche held onto seventh over Murdock.

Dryden now in fourth had to battle with Zavarella for third. While the duo battled back and forth, Dryden ended up a nose ahead of Zavarella at the start finish line completing the pass going into turn 1.

Just before the half way point Dryden was on track to take down Hauck for second. As Dryden had his hands full chasing down Hauck, Racine was chasing down Zavarella for fifth.
Now with Hauck in his rear view mirror Dryden just had Smith to get by to claim the lead. As half way came Dryden had caught up to Smith going low coming out of turn 2 as Smith stayed high knowing Dryden had the better car.

Settling into second Smith had Hauck in third to think about while further back in fourth was Racine showing some impressive speed as he inched his way closer to Hauck. Zavarella rounded out the top five but had Stahle and Murdock following closely behind him waiting for their chance to make a move.
It wasn’t long before the leader had caught up to Lucas Munsie at the rear of the field putting him and his ill handling car a lap down.
While Dryden was out in front lapping Munsie, Hauck had caught up to Smith trying to go low out of turn 2 to get by her. As the two battled over second Racine had caught the two and in a sneak attack took third from Hauck dividing him from Smith then taking second from Smith the very next lap going low to her inside in turn 4.
As the checkered flag waved to end the race Dryden, with a straightaway’s lead over Racine, had just caught Marche to put him a lap down.
The Final Finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets Final Feature at Sunset Speedway for Saturday July 14th is as follows; 1. DARREN DRYDEN, 2. Adam Racine, 3. Dominique Smith, 4. Brandon Hauck, 5. Brandon Zavarella, 6. Adrian Stahle, 7. Steven Murdock, 8. Ryan Fraser, 9. Cassidy Marche, 10. Lucas Munsie
In the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Qualifying Feature Munsie had pole while Marche lined up beside him.
When the green flag dropped to signal the start of the race Marche was off ahead of Munsie but had a very eager Racine and Fraser quick on their tails. Munsie fell back to fourth while Fraser jumped from sixth into second while Racine settled for third, Zavarella rounded out the top 5.
Coming out of turn 2 on the second lap, Fraser, Marche and Racine were three wide all hungry to be in the lead. Racine with the stronger car was able to pull away while Fraser followed and tucked himself in behind Racine while further back Hauck, Smith and Murdock found themselves in their own 3-way battle for seventh, eighth and ninth.
As the field started feather out, Racine had a large lead over Fraser in second while Dryden who started in tenth quickly advanced forward gaining four positions landing in sixth then fourth the very next lap.

Dryden was quick to capture third from Marche then second from Fraser before turning his sights on Racine, beginning the tedious task of trying to reel him in knowing he also had a strong car.

An unfortunate circumstance on lap 9 brought out the caution for Racine who’s engine went up in a cloud of smoke spewing oil around the track from the exit of turn 2 all the way around to turn 1. Thinking he had blown a motor, Racine thought his night had ended. Luckily, for him his night was not over but just his chance at a win in the first feature as he had discovered his oil cap had come loose.

With Racine out of the race, this handed the lead over to Dryden for the restart.
Once the green flag dropped, Dryden was off like a rocket while Fraser and Stahle battled for second. Fraser was able to stay ahead of Stahle but only for one lap before Stahle came back and over took him in turn 4.
At the half way point Hauck had chased down Zavarella for fifth.
The rest of the race ran uneventful with the drivers all spread out around the track until lap 23 when Dryden caught up to Munsie at the rear of the field putting him a lap down just before the checkers flew.

The Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets have an off week July 21st but will return to the asphalt oval at Flamboro Speedway on July 28th.
The Final Finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets Qualifying Feature at Sunset Speedway for Saturday July 14th is as follows; 1.
LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS: DRYDEN AND STAHLE HANG 10 IN VICTORY LANE

It was a Canada Day long Weekend Battle at the Beach for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets.
Darren Dryden and Adrian Stahle both rode the big wave and found themselves in Victory Lane with the coveted Surfboard Trophy after winning back to back Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Features Saturday and Sunday night.
Dryden claimed his Surfboard Sunday night.
“We didn’t know we were going to have an axel snap on us last night but honestly it’s probably a good thing because this thing has never been so fast. I have to thank my dad and Steve for all the work they put into it last night to get this car back up to shape and for the killer set up for today as well.” When asked what happened last night Dryden’s reply was, “Honestly just ware and tare, we just had the axel snap on us and no one got into us.”
In the Final Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Feature of the weekend, Lucas Munsie lined up on pole along with last years 2017 Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Rookie of the year Dominique Smith.
As the green flag dropped it was smith who got the jump on Munsie taking off like a rocket. Munsie held onto second until turn 3 when Ryan Fraser took Munsie on the outside bring along last years Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Champion Adam Racine.
Trying to hang onto fourth Munsie was passed high in turn 2 by Brandon Hauck followed by a very strong running Adrian Stahle.
As Smith increased her lead over the field, Racine settled into second knocking Fraser back to third and setting sights on Smith as his laps time were faster then hers.
Once the front runners finished jockeying for positions, Dryden who started seventh, began his ascend forward as he gained a position or two with each lap.
As Racine chased down Smith with each lap, Dryden found himself in the mix of a four-way battle for third with Fraser, Stahle, and Hauck. Munsie who was trying to stay away from the battle went too high and tagged the wall slightly along the front stretch sending him further back in the field.
Racine had finally caught smith and was riding her tail waiting to make his move, as there was a 10-car gap from second to third. Stahle made a dive low in turn 3 to get by Hauck as he made the same move on Fraser the very next lap going into turn 1 claiming third. Once in third Stahle had a lot of wheelin to do to catch Racine and Smith.
Two laps after Stahle passed Fraser for third Racine made a dive bomb move going low in turn 3 and forcing smith to go high as he completed the pass on her to take the lead.
As Racine took off like a rocket out in front, Stahle had caught the back of smith as Dryden was knocking on the back of Stahle. Another 3 way battle for third ensued as Dryden utilized smith to keep Stahle behind her until as he ran in their inside until he was able to complete the pass on both of them and with Dryden out of the way Stahle was able to complete the pass on Smith as well.
Steven Murdock who ran a strong car this weekend finishing on the podium more than once had now made it into the top four while Fraser was settling into fifth.
Dryden finally caught up to Racine just as Racine had caught up to Glen Fenwick at the rear of the field, who the week before at Peterborough Speedway blew an engine and caught fire. Thanks to the quick action of the safety, crew Fenwick walked away unharmed.
Fenwick took the inside in turn 3 as the leaders battled past him. Just past the start finish line Dryden made his move on the inside of Racine to capture the lead just before a caution flew when Cassidy Marche spun around in turn 2.
On the restart it was Dryden, Racine, Stahle, Murdock and Fraser who were your top 5 and with the drop of the green Dryden was off and running away with the lead again as Racine settled into second Stahle in third and Murdock in Fourth and Fraser in fifth.
Murdock battled Stahle with a last lap pass coming out of turn 4 by making contact with Stahle sending him high forcing him to settle for a fourth place finish as Dryden took the win and the Surfboard trophy.
The final finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets feature 2 for July 1/18 at Sauble Speedway was as follows; 1. DARREN DRYDEN, 2. Adam Racine, 3. Steven Murdock, 4. Adrian Stahle, 5. Ryan Fraser, 6. Brandon Hauck, 7. Dominique Smith, 8. Brandon Zavarella, 9. Cassidy Marche, 10. Lucas Munsie, 11. Glen Fenwick, 12. Cory Whittam
In the first Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget feature of the night, Racine held the pole along side Munsie. With the green flag in the air, Racine was off and running as Munsie seemed to have issues getting going and fell to the rear of the field. Fraser jumped two spots from his starting position and landed in second followed by Stahle, Zavarella, and Dryden.
Stahle began having issues just after the drop of the green when his left side panel of his wing came loose and was flapping.
Dryden made leaps and bounds gaining positions lap after lap as he chased down Racine.
Caution came out on lap 9, to Racine’s dismay, as Stahle’s wing panel detached ending his time in this feature.
On the restart, it was Racine and Dryden going nose to tail battling for the lead as they pulled away from the third place car of Fraser and the fourth place car of Murdock while Zavarella trailed behind in fifth.
At the half waypoint, Murdock began a pass on Fraser just getting him by a hair at the start finish line to claim third.
As the laps flew past to the checkers, Dryden ran uncontested with almost a straightaway’s lead over last year Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget champion Racine. The only battle was bewtwen Murdock and Racine as Murdock wanted that second spot from Racine but laps ran out as the checkers dropped for Dryden.
The final finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets feature 1 for July 1/18 at Sauble Speedway was as follows; 1. DARREN DRYDEN, 2. Adam Racine, 3. Steven Murdock, 4. Ryan Fraser, 5. Brandon Hauck, 6. Brandon Zavarella, 7. Dominique Smith, 8. Cassidy Marche, 9. Lucas Munsie, 10. Glen Fenwick, 11. Adrian Stahle, 12. Cory Whittam
Saturday Night the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets battled under the stars in Sauble Beach as they kicked of a double-header weekend of racing. Stahle, who was celebrating his Birthday, proved he had the stronger car. There could not have been a more perfect way to celebrate a birthday than earning a Surfboard Trophy to commemorate the event by taking the Double Features.
“We double downed and I think we got rid of one of our issues so it feels good, I have to thank my dad for working on the car all week getting it ready. I’d like to thank all my sponsors for getting me here, Bell Cartage and Larka Custom Machining, Lucas Oil and Grisdales and especially to the fans for coming out and braving this heat, a special shout out to my friends who came out this weekend. I sure hope we have something for tomorrow but we will see, it will be a totally different day and we will take it from there.”
Stahle started fifth for the last feature of the night but quickly jumped to third getting past Dryden on the first lap as Murdock passed Fraser to capture the lead on the second lap.
Murdock ran out in front, as Stahle moved to second with at fast Dryden in third trying to make it up front.
Caution on lap 8 occurred when Dryden’s front axel snapped ending his night.
With the restart set and the field bunched up Stahle was poised to get by Murdock for the lead at the drop of the green.
On the restart, Stahle became plagued by the charge of Murdock and Fraser as the three of them ran ahead of the rest of the field.
As the laps counted down Stahle ran faster pulling away from the duo as Hauck in fourth made his attempt to mix things up with a close following Smith to round out the top 5.
At the end, Stahle claimed the Checkers and a new surfboard to add to his already impressive collection.
The final finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets Feature 2 for June 30/18 at Sauble Speedway was as follows; 1. ADRIAN STAHLE, 2. Steven Murdock, 3. Ryan Fraser, 4. Brandon Hauck, 5. Dominique Smith, 6. Brandon Zavarella, 7. Cassidy Marche, 8. Lucas Munsie, 9. Darren Dryden, 10. Cory Whittam
The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets lined up for the first of four features Munsie sat on pole with Smith on his outside.
When the green waved, the field ran bunched together through turns; one and two, Munsie fell to the rear as he just could get his car going. While trying to stay out of the way of the faster drivers Munsie got a punt from Racine as he was trying to make his passes forward.
At the front, Stahle who captured the lead from Smith and was gone out in front uncontested for 19 laps. Murdock made his charge forward two laps later passing Smith knocking her to third while Dryden began picking off cars on his way to the front.
At the half waypoint, Stahle was leading; Murdock was second followed by Dryden, Smith and Racine.
Stahle had this Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget feature in the books as he caught the tail end of the field lapping new comer to the club, Bob Bailey, on lap 13 while Dryden made the pass on Murdock for second.
When the white flag dropped, Stahle had lapped Munsie as well before adding another feature win to his season.
The final finish for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets Feature 1 for June 30/18 at Sauble Speedway was as follows; 1.
RACINE WINS LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGET CHAMPIONSHIP, JOINS DRYDEN WITH FEATURE WIN.

It was an amazing year for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets as they closed out their 2017 season at Sunset Speedway’s Fall Velocity.

It was a tight Championship point’s race going into Saturday’s race between Adam Racine and Adrian Stahle, with only 154 points separating them, mathematically it was either drivers Championship to win.

Racine earned his first Lucas Oil Can-Am Championship with a third place finish and a Feature win.

In the first Feature, after dealing with mechanical issues over the past 4 races related to his fuel cell, Darren Dryden sat on the pole. At the drop of the green flag, Dryden was out in front and untouchable for all 25 green to checkers laps.

“We fought mechanical issues the last 4 races so for us to come out here with the car finally working and take the win, I honestly can’t thank my dad enough for all he put into it, Steve Garry and Bill Pippard for their help all season, I couldn’t do it without them. When I saw myself lap the tail of the field as quick as I was I had to turn the car down a bit because I realized no one would be near me. The biggest thing going into the second feature is going to be getting around everyone because I have to start in the back, so it’s going to be interesting for sure. A special thanks to my sponsors Napa Auto Parts, DJD Designs, Retail Design Group, Sharpie Art by Darren Dryden, John Dryden Autobody, Epic Racewear, Wix Filters, R & W Repair, BJ Custom Finishes, Rosie’s Custom Paint & Polish and State Farm “Burnside Insurance”.

At the drop of the green it was Dryden and Cory Whittam battling for position and the lead going into turn one. Barry Dunn dropped to the inside as Ryan Fraser went high trying to take positions over Lucas Munsie and Dominique Smith by making it 4 wide but Dunn thinking better of it backed off.

As the field completed the first lap Dryden held the lead over Whittam, Smith settled into third, Fraser was fourth and Mack DeMan rounded out the top five, gaining 5 spots from his tenth place starting spot while Dunn fell to seventh. Stahle and Racine crossed the line in eight and ninth.

The next lap DeMan made a pass on both Fraser and Smith to capture third staying high on their outside.

Lap 5 DeMan had advanced past Whittam for second while Stahle entered the top 5 and Racine looked from the outside in seventh.

As the field ran nose to tail with Dryden out in front with a large lead, Racine had passed Fraser for sixth with Stahle in his sights still sitting in fifth. Lap 10 Racine passed Stahle, his only threat to the Lucas Oil Can-Am Championship, on his outside going into turn 1.

At the half way point Dryden was still leading and within laps of lapping the field while DeMan still held second, Whittam was third, Racine had worked his way up to fourth, and Smith, in her final race as a rookie, held fifth.

By Lap 16 Dryden was putting David Miller a lap down, with Racine battling Whittam for third, Dryden and DeMan were able to increase their lead over the field by half a track.

Lap 18 Dryden had caught Daniel Hawn, Lucas Munsie and Todd Cresswell putting them all a lap down.

In the closing laps Dryden was able to make easy work of Jeff Blackburn adding him to the long list of lapped cars, DeMan held onto second, while Racine ran out of laps to advance any further than third, Whittam had a strong finish in fourth while Stahle fought a good race to round out the top five.

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Feature #1 finish at Sunset Speedway on September 23,2017 was…1.DARREN DRYDEN, 2. Mack DeMan, 3.Adam Racine, 4.Cory Whittam, 5. Adrian Stahle, 6.Dominique Smith(R), 7.Ryan Fraser, 8.Steven Murdoch, 9.Barry Dunn, 10.Jeff Blackburn, 11.Daniel Hawn(R), 12.Lucas Munsie(R), 13. Todd Cresswell, 14. David Miller(R).

Before the start of the second feature The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets saluted one of their own as they said farewell to long time veteran and friend, Barry Dunn. Instead of the field performing their signature 4 wide Salute to the fans, Dunn led the field around the track as fellow racers and friends formed a “flying V”, as a flock of geese do when in flight, behind him.

Dunn decided this was his last year on the paved oval with the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets, trading in his TQ Midget for a Crate Sprint car, returning to his grass roots in dirt car racing.

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Family wishes Dunn all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for 10 great years. We will miss you on the track.

With the first feature in the books with a Third place finish; Racine had the Championship won with 166 points separating him and Stahle. Even with a Win Stahle would still be short on point to clinch the Championship.

Huge Congratulations to Adam Racine on his Lucas Oil Can-Am Championship win and a phenomenal season.

“When we got together there and he spun around, I felt so bad. Me and him are best friends and we’ve been best friends for years, without him and his dad this car wouldn’t be out here this year. I love that guy and I feel bad that we got together. We came up to a lapped car and I knew we were side by side. We got by him and all of a sudden I started sliding, I think I over heated my tires and then it got real fun. We were battling our hearts out. I have to thanks the fans that come out, my family; I love these guys, and to everyone who supports me. To the Mackereth’s, Peter and Mack who let me start out in the 6 car this year, starting me off on the right path with 5 feature wins in the car. Thanks to my sponsors for all their support, Dettmer Tirecraft Auto Centre in Kitchener, Retail Design Group, T-Weber Oil Spraying and Paving and Schwartz Inc”.

Cresswell kicked off the second Feature on pole, leading Munsie, Blackburn, Dunn and Murdoch to the green flag. Just before the drop of the green, Whittam pulled off in the infield with mechanical issues.

Cresswell led the first lap followed by Munsie, Dunn, Stahle and Blackburn.

Dunn, in his last TQ race, lead the second lap, holding the lead for 3 laps as Stahle made a strong run for second with Racine battling him lap after lap, trading positions before the two passed Dunn knocking him down to third.

Lap 5 Stahle was leading ahead of Racine, Dunn, Munsie and Fraser before the caution flew for debris. At the same time Blackburn was slowing on the track with an issue. As the field began to slow, Dryden jumped the left rear tire of Dunn, who was in third. Blackburn would leave the race with a loose negative battery wire.

The restart didn’t go so well when Dryden spun in turn two not realizing he had suffered damage from going airborne.

On the second attempt at the restart, Stahle still was in the lead followed by Racine, Dunn, Fraser and DeMan.

Stahle led for 9 more laps battling to stay ahead Racine before Racine took the lead on lap 16. Stahle and Racine battled side by side for several more laps before Stahle earned the lead back on lap 20.

Running side by side and catching the rear of the field Stahle and Racine made contact between turns 1 and 2; sending Stahle around to bring out the third and final caution of the night.

Racine was now the leader on the restart followed by DeMan, Dunn, Fraser and Dryden as Stahle went to the back of the lead cars.

Getting a good jump on the restart Racine was untouchable hanging on for the Feature win while DeMan finished second, Dryden completed a pass on Dunn with 2 to go for third, Dunn held onto fourth and Fraser rounded the top 5 ahead of Smith. Stahle made a valiant effort to race back to the lead only gaining two positions to finish seventh before the laps ran out.

Congratulation to all the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets on a hard fought 2017 season.

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget Feature #2 finish was…1.
