Sorry folks once again but this is just going to be a few short words and some quick results.. As the title suggest on Lake Simcoe Heating & Air Conditioning Mid Season championship night there was a "Hurricane" that blew into the 8th line of Oro, as #14 Thayne Hallyburton captured both segments of the twin 50 lap features for the Wahta Springs Late Models. The wins would not come easy for Hallyburton however, after the driver had to bide his time to take the lead past #2 "Hometown" Mike Brown just past lap 30 in the first race, while in feature #2 Hallyburton would eventually work past early race leader #43 Darin Malcolm just beyond the midway mark, eventually having to fight off a late race challenge from current point leader #10 Gord Shepherd, who gave Hallyburton a slight knock between turns 3&4 on the final lap, getting him partially crossways, but also being alert enough to not force the issue, as Shepherd settled for second at the line.. Just 2 cautions in each feature, but there was one hard crash on the opening lap of feature #2 as Brown ran on top of the wheel of the 91 of Pepin midway down the backstretch, getting partially airborne, and when the car landed back on track it veered hard right and into the wall in turn 3, also collecting the #24 of Leonard Johnston in the process, thus ending the night for both drivers.
LLM Feature #1 -- 1st} Thayne Hallyburton #14, 2nd Mike Brown #2, 3rd Ron "The Dominator" Quesnelle #57, 4th Al "Red Rocket" Inglis #69, 5th Shawn Murray #02..
LLM Feature #2 -- 1st} Hallyburton, 2nd Shepherd, 3rd Inglis, 4th Murray, 5th Quesnelle..
The Thunder Cars also put on a reasonably clean and exciting race, with only two minor cautions, as the race was won by #10 Rick Walt for the third week in succession. Walt, will take over the point lead after co point leader heading into the event #00 Darryl St. Onge cut a tire while racing for the lead with #37 Robbie Sikes just shy of lap 10 after slight contact was made between the pair, with St. Onge forced pitside and having to charge from the rear of a pretty deep Thunder Car field to eventually finish 4th..Walt, would have to fend off a late race high side challenge from #39 Travis Hallyburton on a late race restart, with the 12 of Belesky also sticking his nose in the mix, trying to get under Hallyburton for second as those two drag raced to the line.
Thunder Car Feature -- 1st} #10 Rick Walt, 2nd} #39 Travis "The Enforcer" Hallyburton, 3rd} #12 Jim "Polish Prince" Belesky, 4th} #00 Darryl St. Onge, 5th} #44 Dave "The Deuce" Doucette.
Heat wins went to Walt, Hallyburton, Doucette, and rookie contender #37 Robbie Sikes.
The St. Onge Recreation Pure Stocks put on a whale of a show as usual, with the 30 lap feature win going to #10 Doug Butler of New Lowell. Butler, put on a very impressive drive mostly along the outside groove, eventually taking the lead from #77 Mike Gettliffe in turn one on lap 18. Gettliffe, was putting in a solid performance of his own on this night as he had to fend off a very game late race challenge from #400 Justin Holmes.. The three car train of Butler, Gettliffe, and Holmes broke away from the pack by half straightaway, as defending track champ #9 Charlie Smith got boxed in for quite sometime in the early going, eventually finishing 4th. Second week in a row the 4 cylinder guys and girls have went caution free, and the on track action was still there in spades.. All drivers should be commended for a job well done, as this has become one of my favorite divisions to watch.. The top 7 or 8 cars are all very strong ones that's for sure. So bottom line is if you haven't been out to see a Barrie 4 cylinder race??? You should do so at your first available chance!! π
Pure Stock Feature -- 1st} #10 Doug Butler, 2nd} #77 Mike Gettliffe, 3rd} #400 Justin Holmes, 4th } #9 Charlie Smith, 5th} #71 Pete Gettliffe..
Heat wins went to Butler with a pair to cap off his "hat trick" on the evening, Gettliffe, and Holmes.
