Well the whole opening rainout thing was a bad deal for racers and fans but I decided to use the time to whip up a batch of historical lemonade instead of getting all sour on the cancellation lemons.

This has been a long-term project that got off the rails a little. There was some discussion about bringing it back as a proper website but I don't have time for that. Thanks to some excellent new pictures that Dave Vokey shared from his dad Ralph's collection, I've done a reno job on the Fotki albums and added a bunch of things for 1973, 1974, 1976 and 1977. I hope to plug away at getting the rest of what I've got loaded and plan on actively pursuing some other stuff that I know is out there.

Here area  couple of samples:

From the Vokey Collection, Mike Shaughnessy winning the ex-Coates Duster in 1974. I've been trying to find a pic of this for a long time.

Another rare one from the Vokey Collection, Don Nelson in a Mustang also in the abbreviated 1974 season.

One of my personal favourites from the Vokey albums. It is 1976 with Ralph on the starter stand, Jerry Watson in the tower on the left, Glenn Archer on the mic and the long-haired stroker-hat one on the right is yours truly with handicapping and scoring duties.

Here is a victory lane pic from the 1976 season with Ralph Vokey, season champion Don Wardle and a young Keith McLeod presenting the trophy on behalf of Barrie's 4 Texaco stations.

Probaly some type of high tech gadget I know nothing about!!!LOL Look at how far those rims stick out on the Shaughnessy pic!!! I remember seeing one you had of Russ Quesnelle that was very similiar...... Same year perhaps??? Russ was going down the backstretch at Barrie perhaps you remember the one???

Just a cheap scanner that you should be able to find at Future Shop for around a hundred dollars 🙂 For best results, I scan at a high resolution even though web/on screen viewing doesn't really need it, the pics look better to me.

I think this is the pic of Russ Quesnelle you mean, I have it tagged as 1978 but it could be 1977.

Sounds good to me Gerry, there are a few of us around that like the old stuff as well as the new. If I don't get over to see you please stop by the 19-79 pit area. Cheers, Rod
