This is just going be a really quick synopsis and a few quick results from tonight's action In the 30 lap finale for the Wahta Springs Late Models it was #57 Ron "The Dominator" Quesnelle who took the feature win. Quesnelle, would slip past #91 Andre Pepin on the outside after a lap 18 restart, and once he found the front he opened up a 3 car length lead, as the fast duo of #14 "Hurricane" Thayne Hallyburton and #10 Gord Shepherd took a fair bit of time to find the inside line and work around the pesky Pepin and by then it was too late to catch Quesnelle.
LLM Feature #1 -- 1st} 57 Ron Quesnelle, 2nd} 14 Thayne Hallyburton, 3rd} 10 Gord Shepherd, 4th 91} Andre Pepin, 5th} 24 Leonard Johnston.
The first 30 lapper was a bit more messy than the first and featured one pretty substantial incident when the #02 of Shawn Murray tapped and spun Quesnelle between turns 3&4.. Didn't see if Murray actually hit the wall trying to avoid the prone Quesnelle ride, or if the 24 of Johnston caught a piece of the 02 on the way past.. Didn't look like the worst of incidents, but it sent Murray to the hospital with a broken wrist..The feature win would go to the 14 of Hallyburton, who claimed his third feature in succession before having the streak stopped by Quesnelle in the nightcap..
LLM Feature #2 -- 1st} 14 Thayne Hallyburton, 2nd} 10 Gord Shepherd, 3rd} 83 Ian Bourque, 4th} 57 Ron Quesnelle, 5th} 24 Leonard Johnston.
The Thunder Car feature was a pretty decent affair, and featured a great late race battle with the 44 of Doucette and 00 of St. Onge.. The 00 was definitely quicker into turn 1, and would really close the gap on Doucette in that spot on track, but the 44 had much better drive out of turn 2, and hense was able to keep St. Onge at bay despite a couple stern challenges to the inside of turn 4 in the last 5 laps.. The point leading #10 Monte of Rick Walt looked to be a little off in the heat races and got mired mid pack in feature finishing 6th, which was a bit of a surprise ending his streak of three feature wins in succession.
Thunder Car Feature -- 1st 44 Dave Doucette, 2nd 00 Darryl St. Onge, 3rd 39 Travis Hallyburton, 4th 12 Jim Belesky, 5th 21 Bill Walt.
Heat wins went to Hallyburton with a pair, Doucette, and St. Onge.
Once again the St. Onge Recreation Pure Stocks put on a great showing, running caution free for the third week in a row covering 70 laps of the tight and tricky 1/3rd mile tri oval. #400 Justin Holmes would capture his 1st feature win of the season in his sleek looking Hwy 400 Transmission Mustang after some pretty tough luck for the opening month of the season, and an unfortunatel spin while racing to the checkered just 2 weeks ago. Holmes, would power to the point on the top side of early race leader #71 Pete Gettliffe going into turn one just shy of midway if memory serves.. Gettliffe, having a very solid run for the 2nd week in succession, was eventually passed by son #77 Mike Gettliffe in turn three just 3 laps later, as the younger Gettliffe would end up 2nd at the stripe to the youngster Holmes.
Pure Stock Feature -- 1st} 400 Justin Holmes, 2nd} 77 Mike Gettliffe, 3rd} 9 Charlie Smith, 4th} 10 Doug Butler, 5th } 57 Ryan Toon. Unfortunately the 9 of Smith would get caught up in the post race technical inspection for oversize valves, bumping Butler to 3rd and Toon to 4th and giving me zero idea who the 6th now 5th place finisher would be!! 😉
Heat wins went to Butler with a pair, Holmes, and #71 "Scrap Iron" Pete Gettliffe..
Well that's totally all I have for now folks.. Sorry for the fairly shotty report once again.. Have a great remainder of the weekend everyone and enjoy Tony's win at Loudon tomorrow!!! ;)... Signing out... FROM THE CHEAP SEATS!!!
Now I remember it was the #71 of Pete Gettliffe that wound up in 5th in the 4 banger feature.. 😉
I remember, back in my Sunset day's. Paul Heatherington got taken into the turn 4 wall. It didn't look like much. The yellow had flown, and Paul reached threw the steering wheel to pull the pin, when he got hit again. The steering wheel spun quickly, breaking his right wrist. Two weeks later, he showed up with a steering wheel that looked like a centerline wheel. He told me that he wasn't going to try that trick again. It doesn't take much of an impact to do harm. I'm wishing Shawn a speedy recovery and get back to his winning form.
Jeez 9 was going off a couple weeks ago when the 11 won the feature how wide that car was, not as wide as his valves appairently
