hey dave thanks for the kind words. hopefully will be back to my winning ways next year. Hopefully someone will put their money behind me n i can show them that i can still get the job done!!! 😉
you can dooooo it lukey!
Davey lets get the rest up!
Well I'm kinda likin the idea of twin Hillsdale Service Center/The Dock FM Montes for you and Luke there Thayner!!!!!LOL Luke runs 21 and your planning on running 20, makes alot of sense. All joking aside heres the completion of the list and a few possible new additions.
#44 Dave "The Deuce" Doucette ------- as good of a season that 2007 entailed, 2008 might of been even better for the Angus pilot. Now his bid for a repeat track championship was essentially wiped out after a 2 week suspension in June, but Doucette did still manage 2 feature wins and 4 top 5s, in just 5 starts. Add to that a win in a Sunset Invitational, 3rd at KD in the July Sizzler event and a 3rd at Fall Colors and that sounds like a good enough season in itself. But what really made the season for "The Deuce" was his performance at the season ending Thunder Car Nationals where he would go onto sweep all 3 50 lappers, starting dead last for the 2nd race. It was truly a day of dominance for the 2004 Pure Stock Champ and one of those days people will be talking about for years to come. Now this being said, I been hearing that Dave might indeed be one of the drivers headed south to Sunset in lure of big $$ if they do indeed pay 1000 nightly to win. Due to some of the uncertainty involved its 50/50 where Doucette will run in 09 I feel.
#49 Flyin Frank Davey -------- another guy that falls into the category that one or two paragraphs couldnt cover all his accomplishments in Thunder Cars over the past decade, but I'll give it a try. 2001, 2005, 2006, and 2008 track champ. Add in a 2003 Sunset title, and the guys that Frank has beaten over the years reads like a who's/who of accomplished Thunder Car shoes. I'm callin this season "The Drive for Five" as Davey looks for a repeat to further lodge his name into the BSW record books. Frank's season was built on consistency, as the driver was not able to record as many wins as in years past, with just one feature to his credit in 08. Davey did lead the division in both top 5s and 10s however, recording 8 and 11 in those categories respectively. 100 percent back at Barrie I feel, as the drive for five is important for Flyin Frank and the mean black tank as well.
#59 Devan Craft --------- ran really solid for the first 6 weeks in 08, but then would sucumb to mechanical issues, sidelining him for a few weeks of the season. Devan is another of those that competes on a limited budget and does quite well with it, managing to make 8 of 12 starts having one top 10 along the way. 100 percent Craft will be back in the former Cunnington machine, and if he can find the budget a top 15 in the points isnt outta the relm of possibility for this young gun.
#67 Jeff Smith ---------- had some really solid heat races in 08, and while those havent really paid of in feature results as of yet for the Rosseau driver, his consistency and improvment along the way is quite noticeable to those that follow the Simcoe County race scene. Finished 12th in points in 07, backing that up with a solid 15th place showing this past year, and if he can take a further step forward in 09, a couple top 5 or even a podium finish might be within Smith's grasp.
#72 Marty Monette ------- 2008 really was a breakthrough year for Monette and his sleek looking orange Camaro. 11th in points, with one feature win and 3 top 5s speaks volumes of the strides made by the 72 team. Now Marty did miss one start due to a mechanical issue and still almost managed to better his 10th place that 2007 brought about. The Hamilton resident's future at BSW is very much in question as he along with LLM driver Mike Brown have become he flagship TTR cars at the track. If somehow the "sour grapes" between TTR and Barrie's owners can get settled or at least reasonably compromised on than I think you could see Marty back. Did hear the car was for sale as well but to my knowledge hasnt sold yet. I'll give it 50/50 we see the popular driver back for a 3rd season at BSW.
#84 Jerry Slavish -------- What started off as a rather slow season for Slavish and his brilliant looking Dodge Avenger, turned to gold come August as the driver would notch his first feature win. Slavish would also record a second in the twin 25s that day, proving he could be a force to be reckoned with in 2009. I dont think a top 10 in the season ending points is outta reach for this team and that should be the motivation to make the 2nd year Thunder Car driver another 100 percent returnee.
#92 Dan Dixon ------- if there was truly a nice moment in the 2008 season, it was when the 7 year division veteran notched his first feature win after being so close on a few occasions in the past. Dixon also would run a strong 2nd to Belesky in a Sept feature, and finished with 5 top 10s in 11 starts. I would suggest its 100 percent the Parry Sound resident returns in 09, as he exemplifies what a BSW die hard is all about, not choosing to run many other tracks. Another that falls into the true gentlemen of racing category look for Dixon to be pushing for a top 10 in the season points in 2009.
#97 Brad Holden ------- Consistant in all aspects of the game, as a 4th place in the season long points would attest. Didnt manage a feature win in 08, after hitting victory lane on successive weeks in 2007. Holden was rumored to be on the move to LLM in 09, but I hear thats no longer on the radar and he'll be returning to the #97 Chevy Lumina in 09 and I think if he can better his career best 4th of a season ago (also finished 6th in 07) then the talented shoe from Midland would consider that a sucessful season as well. Another true gentleman of racing and also brother in law of track champ Flyin Frank so that always brings about some friendly competition and great racing between the two.
NEW ADDITIONS*******
#4 Mike Meyer -------- the time might be right for the 2008 Pure Stock runner up to try his hand at the Thunder Car division. Did purchase the former Granger #17 car along with the Walt family, so I think thats what you might see Mike run in 09. Very sportmanlike and patient on the track, and that should bode well for him in this division. My only question is the car, its a pretty old piece although might be still a good one with possibly a new power plant for 09 or such. Won 3 features in Pure Stock in 08, proving hes more than capable behind the wheel.
#20 Thayne Hallyburton ------- if there's a driver that has improved more in any division over the past 3 years at BSW I dont know who you could be speaking of. From all indications CRO's own is following Meyer's move to the Thunder Car division in 2009, although I'm unsure on the car as of yet. Captured his first feature win and several heats last season in Pure Stocks, and has proven a willingness to run the high line on more than one occasion. Has a ultra strong team to boot in the Hillsdale Service Center crew and this could be the determining factor in his push for 2009 rookie honors.
#21X?? Desi Walt --------- from all indications my future wife (lol) has purchased the former #13 Monte of cousin Ricky to run the Thunder division in 2009. A ultra solid and clean runner I personally thought she might of been best served with another year in the 4cyl division. But no one can question the gumption and skill this girl has on the track thats for sure, as evidenced by her 2nd place in the Charger division to a very strong Melenhorst car. The car should be fast and if Desi could adapt to the learning curve quickly I think she is another that could suprise alot of people in 2009. But that being said to finish in the top 15 in this competitive a class would be a huge accomplishment for this rookie.
And by all means Evan if you want to add parts 2 & 3 to the front page Breaking News section feel free to do so. Thats why I write them for is the people to read them. After all the more people that read/like/enjoy them its good for CRO, BSW and all involved. And thanks to all my loyal readers who gave me good feedback in the past and on this particular thread. Its for you people I put the time in!!!
Thanks for writing the excellent as usual report Dave.
