Barrie Night 11-- Lewis Finally Wins Another

Ok 20 min rundown time.. Good night of racing once again from an on track action standpoint, despite a smaller car count in a couple of the divisions.. At 5pm when it rained a little bit I didnt think we'd get this one in, but kudos to the owners for stickin it out.. Was also amazed how fast we got the track completely dry after the rain hit..In the track's featured LLM division #8 Dave Lewis took the evening's first 30 lap feature win .. First win for Lewis since the first feature of the year ironically enough..The race would see #5 Steve Quesnelle and #6 Keith Maiato making up the front row, with Quesnelle taking control of the point, after 5 laps door handle to door handle with Maiato.. Lewis, was quick to follow Quesnelle through on the inside line underneath Maiato, to take over 2nd. Lewis, would soon challenge Quesnelle for the lead, and on lap 10 completed an inside pass between 1&2 to assume control of the race. Quesnelle, would continue to get shuffled further back in the running order, as both #10 Gord Shepherd and #69 Al "Red Rocket" Inglis would make their way past , leaving Quesnelle to scrap it out with brother Ron for 4th place. Lewis, would open up a 2 car length lead at the front of the field with laps right at 15 sec. flat, as Ron Quesnelle would win the hotly contested duel with brother Steve for 4th place in behind. The only caution flew on lap 26, as Ron Quesnelle spun on his own accord in corner 4, just as Inglis was really turning up the heat on Shepherd for 2nd.On the restart, Lewis would power to the front and again opened up a 2 car length advantage on Shepherd, with the best battle taking place for 4th, as silky smooth #22 Rick Walt passed Steve Quesnelle with only 2 laps remaining.. But this one belonged to Lewis, who maintained the 2 car length advantage over the duration, as Shepherd claimed 2nd at the checkered..Point leader Al Inglis would get his night off to a tidy start with a 3rd place showing, while Walt and Steve Quesnelle completed the fast five..The 2nd feature was a bit more entertaining than the first, and it saw Maiato power to the front from the pole, as Ron Quesnelle cleared brother Steve in behind by lap 2 to take over 2nd..On the very next lap Ron Quesnelle would dive down inside Maiato entering 3, and become the race's new leader. Quesnelle, would open up a half straightaway advantage with laps in the 14.8 sec range, as the duo of Shepherd and Inglis had their hands full getting around the pesky Maiato. On lap 18, Shepherd would make a brilliant inside pass of Maiato entering 1, as Inglis was quick to follow into 3rd.. Maiato, would manage to get back to the inner line in front of Lewis to maintain 4th, but on lap 24 he would run into the back of Inglis out of 2, causing the 69 to spin on the backstretch for the only caution.. The result would see Inglis be given his spot back, with Maiato sent to the rear. This turn of events would set up a 4 lap shootout, with front runners Quesnelle and Shepherd making up the front row.. Quesnelle, would power to the point once again, as Shepherd would get trapped up high and was passed by the duo of Lewis and Inglis for position.. They would come to the stripe in that order with Ron Quesnelle taking his 8th feature win of the season, to tie point leader Inglis in that dept.. Speaking of Inglis, he had a runner up finish in this one, as Lewis, Shepherd, and Walt comprised the rest of the top 5..The OLG SLOTS Thunder Cars would go caution free for the 5th time in 10 features this season in the 30 lap main, as point leader and CRO's own Jim "Polish Prince" Belesky recorded his 6th feature win of the season. It was #67 Jeff Smith gaining the early advantage from the drop of the green, getting the jump on rookie contender #38 Steeve Melson.. Melson, would soon make his mark felt, as the young prodigy would execute a stunning crossover move in corner two, relegating Smith to 2nd in the running order.. In behind this duel, the battle was on between the front running duo of Belesky and #14 Thayne Hallyburton for the third place position.. The two battled door to door for several laps not laying so much as a fender on each other as Belesky would eventually get past the 14, and begin to hunt down the leader Melson..After looking to the low side for several laps and unable to get a nose to the inside, Belesky pulled to the high side of the 38 on lap 18, and finally took the lead entering 1.. Also on the fly was the sleek looking #3 of Ken Denhollander, as the third year driver would pass the #24 of Leonard Johnston for 4th on the outside, and then took 3rd from Hallyburton who was beginning to smoke from the rear end.. As has happened so often this season once "The Prince" finds the front it was "turn out the lights the party's over".. and thats how this one played out at the checkered...Rookie Melson would have a career best feature finish in a Thunder coming ...

Not a Shepherd fan I take it Jamie??LOL How's your Rookie year goin all in all bud?? Must be a bit of a learning curve for sure..I've never been to Delaware but hopeful of getting down there for the 200.. Are you racing that day??? Best of luck the rest of the year

And that's pretty strange about Gordie, hes squeaky clean at Barrie.. Doesnt lay a bumper on anyone really.. Perhaps he's really struggling getting the car to handle down there???

I think with Gord you are right, it's just frustration from not running up front..........Our rookie season is right about where it should be right now, we're learning a lot every week and haven't had any major mishaps, our main concern right now is keep the fenders on it and make laps, we're just running other guys old tires and trying to get things figured out, already have a lot of improvements planned for the winter as long as we finish out the year in one piece.

Cool, glad to see your havin a bit of fun and keeping a clean car most nights Jamie.. That would be half the challenge for a 1st year LM driver I would imagine.. You also seem to have the right attitude.

But you never answered me if your running the 200 on Sept 5th?

sometimes my brain isn't attached to my typing finger LOL yup we'll be running the 200

Again good to hear Jamie.. Perhaps I'll' go pitside that day and introduce myself.. I really enjoy meeting members of the CRO community.. Thats all providing I can find a race travel buddy this way to drive me down that day.. Sunset has the Stefco LLM touring series there on Sept 5th as well but I'd much rather see the 200 as I mentioned cause never been to Delly in my life..And I also must meet the other MAN, MYTH, LEGEND, ICON of short track racing......... SHADOW!!! ;D

The 19 cars in 4 cyl had a wild race, and Murray starting 18th was the one guy who DIDNT forget what a real race at Barrie is usually like with that many cars. I was amazed with the amount of crying from some of the guys in that class who have been on a cake walk all year with 10 cars in the show. You didnt like that??? Ok lets put the other 6 cars out there and make it a mans race with 24 cars!!

It wasnt bad calls from the officials, it wasnt Murray jumping the start that allowed him to win, it wasnt rough driving, IT WAS A LARGE NUMBER OF CARS IN A RACE!! What do you expect, everyone to move over for you??!!

Murray won because hes a champ with EXPERIENCE, and I think he had the most of it out of any driver on that track last night. When things got harry in the pack, he hit the gas and went passed it all, not the brakes and got pussy scared!

Obviousy none of these boys never ran thundercar at Barrie from 2003-2005, otherwise they woundnt be crying about some scratched paint!
