I just want to say that it is sad that rick and mike meyer will not be racing at Barrie anymore.A lot of drivers and fans alike might not have liked them much, but does everyone forget the sponsorship he gave for the 3 specials last year.Barries loss is definately Sunsets GAIN.

i dont understand why people dont like rick myer.

i met him on saturday and the guy is a class act

Spencer I do beleive once people get a chance to meet the meyers that they will have the same attitude towards them as you do.

One of the things I have always liked about Barrie the most is the proximity of the seating to the track. Racing intimacy at it's gearhead best and usually a great show.
The primary reason Sunset had a big crowd last Saturday (and Barrie not as much) was because Oscaar was racing. The slm's are often very entertaining at Sunset and the Alstar series was sometimes brilliant (sometimes not so much...) Some of the best races they ever ran in the series were at Sunset. My grandson was at a Sunset Alstar race six hours before he was born!! He loves racing to this day. He's now coming up to eight! Anyway, I actually forgot that Oscaar was in town because I may well have gone otherwise.
I too have always enjoyed the thunder car divsion there. Far and away the best divsion they have. I've held that opinion for 20 years. It's the 35 or so 4 cyl. cars which were earlier described quite rightly as junkyard refugees, or words to that effect, that lose me. I have yet to get a moments thrill from watching them. The RR division? Yeah, ok. They can be a good show. FourFun is no doubt a huge blast for the participants, I certainly get that, but thay need to run on Sunday afternoon or something.
I think the dirt track idea could work around here. No, there's not a tradition of dirt racing in this area, but I think it would quickly find an audience since it's currently a long drive to the nearest dirt oval to get a "sprint fix" and dirt is just generally a hot ticket these days!
Oh, we can't forget that Tom Walters Sunset championships are all at the late model sportsman level, not llm. I think the main reason he's in llm now is that it's currently the predominant weekly top level division. I would never rule out the idea that he could end up back at Barrie at some point. It will get boring down south and hachets will get buried up north, or something like that. He's not in the running for any titles this year though (...is Kawartha a possibility?) so I guess it's all for fun now and THAT is a racers racer, whatever else you may think of him.

I'd love to have the option of a dirt track show within easy reach. If you haven't been, GO! Especially for a sprint car show. The dirt late models are great too. Since you have the added factor of the slide through the corners even the mini stocks are a whole different game on the dirt. Make the trip to any of the dirt tracks. Myself, I've only been to Ohsweken a couple of times, but everybody should catch some dirt at least once. You'll probably want to go back! ;D
