A lot of message you are showing is before we had a COC or the new moderation on the board. So yes you could find a few messages that would have broke the rules.
I have been warned as well for a word I used and I own the site. Fair is fair if my post don't follow the rules the mods here will edit my posts as well.
Sure, I'll give you a couple of those points...but I'll add that due to the way things worked out, I have to wear a different hat now. The posts from me that you quoted were from way before I was a mod. Sue me. 🙂
However this one I just don't get.
I know a good messageboard...a non racing related one that has a simple policy: If you can't say it in front of your Grandma, you can't say it here.
(Shadowracer)Wouldn't this be offensive to nascar fans , and have the strong potential to set off a flame war ?
Why would that be offensive to NASCAR fans? The respectful ones would'nt get offended by the idea, and the ones who'd want to be obscene or disrespectful...there's lots of boards out there for them.
2 facts you may not know because you're fairly new here: 1: We're not an anonymous group. A lot of us here know each other face to face, so there's a little more respect, and more to this community than just the messageboard. We're not just a bunch of anonymous posters hiding behind our usernames. (Most of us aren't, anyway) So things are a little different than on other boards.
Also, we do, or are trying to cater to the Jr Racers as well. They're not a huge part of the community, and we hope for more participation from that segemnt, so we strive to provide an environment that will both nurture them, and make their parents feel at ease about their posting here. Parents these days are awfully paranoid about the internet...and justifiably so. We want to keep this place a positive expereience.
We realize this is not to everyone's taste. And it was a decision not made lightly. Ultimately we decided that weeding out the problems, and running the risk of shrinking the community was better in the long run than having wide open posting with little or no moderation...and having flamewars all the time. We prefer to try and have track owners/managers on our side, and all those other boards out there that you refer to are a pretty good reason that owners/operators don't trust the internet.
So, the whole "well other boards do this/don't do this" is really irrelevant to the discussion. We're CRO. Here's the rules.
As far as this:
I sure cant argue the point that you have different rules guidelines and moderation policies , they are different depending on who you are , so please don't pee on my back and tell me its raining out .
I'll only respond that you're the one that asked. Sorry if you didn't like the answers.
Shadowracer your post of "Nascar is only tops in hype" should have preceded my comment of "wouldn't that be offensive to nascar fans " not followed it . This seems to be predominately a regional board so it would only stand to reason that it would not have the anonymity of the international boards that i previously mentioned like nascar.com . I don't think i would classify anyone as hiding behind a screen name in this day and age of the internet as it is only reasonable for several reasons that i don't think i need to explain other wise we would all be using our full names with our home phone numbers in our signature . I did not read enough pages of your personal posts i suppose to get to the point where you began to start to " nurture Jr Racers" and refrain from using expletives on a fairly regular basis .
At no time did i ever state or infer "they do it this way or that way on other boards" that argument is juvenile and frankly beneath me . I did say i have never had any problems on any of the other boards i have ever been on , there is quite a bit of difference. My statement of "I sure cant argue the point that you have different rules guidelines and moderation policies , they are different depending on who you are , so please don't pee on my back and tell me its raining out . " was just that a statement not a question . Your reply of' I'll only respond that you're the one that asked. Sorry if you didn't like the answers ". makes no sense at all.
I understand from what you say that you have had problems in the past and have had to crack down . I have often seen when the pendulum has swung to far one way that in an effort to correct it the pendulum has been pushed to far in the other direction and this appears to be this case here to me .
I have now carefully read the COC several times and believe i can post here given a little latitude . This discussion has been about beat to death and i now only look forward to having a civil discussion about racing .
